It's based on the true story of a drug addict daughter who wants help getting clean (for the 14th time) and her long suffering mother who has been burned by her daughter in the past and is a bit dysfunctional in her own right. Daughter has to stay clean for four days to be eligible for a shot that will keep opioids from being able to make her high (thus helping her stay clean long term) but she has to do it at home and can't stay in a facility. The movie is about those four days. It's really good. Has some language but not bad for the subject matter.

Ugh. This could be about my ex. She's back on the street. Even when she's clean she sabotages any help she gets.

So sad. People are their own worst enemies sometimes. I can imagine that for people who have lived this experience, the movie could be very triggering. 1

Even my 16 year old teenager like it, and since he mostly watches Top Gear that was a surprise. The movie has a sad premise, but it has some lighthearted parts and is quite touching. It’s PG-13 but has some language.

And it's based off a true story.

We are watching Midsomer Murders and Grantchester, currently. Waiting for more Vera and Brokenwoid. We are also watching Only Murders in The Building with Steve Martin and Martin Short. 1

bluebell Posted October 12, 2021 Posted October 12, 2021 Midnight Mass on Netflix is excellent. It's technically a horror show (or rather, series as it has 7 episodes) so it won't be for everyone. It's also got some language and there is gore (though it's rather tame compared to what I've seen in other shows). But the way they combined the story (which is ultimately one of religion and faith) with the horror aspect (there are vampires), is just amazing. The story just has so much HEART, which is unheard of with this genre. I can't say enough good about it.
Amulek Posted October 13, 2021 Posted October 13, 2021 No Time To Die Daniel Craig's final installment as Bond didn't come close to reaching the heights of his first outing back in Casino Royale (which, hands-down, has been the best Bond movie filmed to date) but it was a perfectly serviceable ending for his time as our favorite '00.' If you happen to be a Bond fan, the movie ticks all of the boxes you are looking for: action, romance, car chases, gadgets, a couple of intentionally bad puns (only when talking to Q of course), and more Aston Martins than you can shake a stick at. Oh, and don't forget sexy spies and (last but not least) Daniel Craig with his shirt off again. It will be sad to see him leave the franchise. He has been one of the best actors to fill the role, second only to Sean Connery of course. Will be interesting to see who they decide to go with next. 2

The last episode is the most bloody but it’s mostly just blood. No ripping or shredding or any like that. You never even see any pointy teeth. the first few episodes have some quick jump scares but not many. Maybe two or three total? It’s all very nuanced. 1

Amulek Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Zack Snyder's Justice League After sitting through the entire 4 hr 2 min feature (literally one-sixth of a day) I can honestly say that Zack Snyder's version of the Justice League...wasn't as bad as the original. That's not to say it was a great movie. It wasn't. But if you like superhero movies, I suppose it was okay. To it's credit, it was definitely a much more coherent and thematically consistent film than what was presented to audiences back in 2017 - which, at double the runtime, with the return of the original director and an extra $70M, kind of ought to be expected - but the final result was, I thought, still just kind of meh. Sorry. Oh, and for those who may care, the Snyder Cut ended up garnering an R rating for language and fantasy violence. I didn't find either to be especially distracting but if you are looking for a reason to skip the film then please feel free to use that as your excuse. Or, alternatively, you could go with this: Amulek said I could skip it, and he's pretty much always right about these kinds of things. 1
bluebell Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 I watched Prometheus again for probably the 4th or 5th time. It's kind of a prequel to the whole Alien saga movies. It's a tad bloody (with some gore and language, though it's tame compared to the movie Aliens) but it's weirdly deep and also kind of confusing so you have to watch it multiple times to really figure stuff out (don't even try to figure everything out. I don't think it's possible, which is part of the premise of the movie). If you like space sci-fi and being slightly scared or traumatized while being fascinated at the same time then this is the movie for you.
