longview Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Very nice. I wonder why President Kimball said for us to make "copious notes" ? Did he mean for us to jot down short incisive thoughts? The dictionary list the synonyms for copious: lavish abundant ample plentiful excessive profuse bountiful riotous liberal gushing complete sufficient bounteous enough plenteous galore adequate extravagant fertile luxuriant fecund munificent abounding unstinting free immoderate redundant unsparing fat openhanded Maybe Kimball meant fertile? As in richness of the spirit? Joseph Smith said, “A person may profit by noticing the first intimation of the spirit of revelation; for instance, when you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas”.

Maybe Kimball and Bednar had different opinions on the subject. Or maybe in Kimball‘s day they didn’t get the written talks as quickly so writing down copious amounts of notes was a good way to deal with not having the talks in written form for a while. Or maybe the context for Kimball’s advice was completely different than the context of what Bednar is talking about. 4

Simple. These are two different men with two different perspectives and two different brains. We don’t have to do every single thing suggested to us. That would make us a cult. What we do need to do, is take what is given, pray about it, and apply accordingly. 6

For those who haven't watched the video the title is at best an incomplete description, and the clip is only a minute and a half long. Well worth it. In my opinion God speaks to us through many voices, so I think it's worth paying attention throughout the day. 3

The two messages appear to be the same. President Kimball said https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/1975/11/spoken-from-their-hearts?lang=eng&id=p3#p3 Quote We hope that the leaders and the members of the Church who have attended and listened to the conference have been inspired and uplifted. We hope you have made copious notes of the thoughts that have come to your mind as the Brethren have addressed you. Many suggestions have been given that will help you as leaders in the perfection of your work. Many helpful thoughts have been given for the perfection of our own lives, and that, of course, is the basic reason for our coming. Elder Bednar says: Quote What you should write down are the things that only you hear that are being delivered only to you, very specifically by the power of the Holy Ghost. So, President Kimball is saying to take copious notes of the thoughts coming into your mind and Elder Bednar is saying to write down what comes to your mind. So, you should take copious notes of what is being revealed to you. But not copious notes of what the speaker is saying. 4

The Nehor Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Did Elder Bednar not consider that maybe those note takers are so in tune with the Spirit that they are writing down the equivalent of new sections of the Doctrine and Covenants and they couldn’t tell him what he was even talking about? 1
