Buckeye Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I wish the DN would pin these to the top of the comments section on their articles. 3

Tacenda Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 The quotes in the OP are great for many things...especially during the divisions in our country.

Honestly, this board is about as contentious as I ever get. Twitter is for news (I follow like-minded people and major newspapers from around the world). Facebook is for friends and family. And, I've learned to avoid comment threads. Our family rule is to avoid controversial topics and find common ground. 2

Navidad Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 There are many things to agree or disagree about. First thing that comes to my mind is salsa (the condiment). Second is the Phillies. Third is religion. It seems to me that fundamentalists of any faith or perspective (and there are such in virtually every faith and perspective) have the greatest difficulty with 2, 3, and 4. . . . . . Don't think you know best; don't compete; and don't rigorously defend your position. May I dare to add one that they didn't mention? OK? Thanks. Here it is, "Don't define a group by its fringe adherents." I think that one leads to numbers 2, 3, and 4. But of course in the spirit of 2, 3, and 4 . . . . I could be wrong! 3

I usually order my chile Christmas style - both red and green and preferably Hatch. I thought the greatest sacrilege in the history of New Mexico was when Blakes Lottaburgers won the best green chile cheeseburger in New Mexico a few years ago! Are you kidding me? Have the judges never been to a small town restaurant in New Mexico? I nominate Irma's in Deming as the best salsa! Of course, I make the best horse radish, he says with typical Mennonite humility. Some day we will get together and we can swap Green Chile Stew recipes! One reason I couldn't join the LDS church . . . they frowned on me cooking my green chile stew with a half a can of Tecate in it. Take care.

mfbukowski Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) I can imagine someone in The Bronx trying to figure out if this thread is in English. Does the other half can of Tecate go into you or the sauce? Edited August 13, 2023 by mfbukowski

I pour the Tecate into the cast iron pot and hand the half-empty can to her. In a few minutes the empty can is in the trash! Hmm. I assume she pours the remainder down the sink! Some things are better not asked! Ha! 1

You realize of course that at least 50% of the readers here have never encountered the word "Tecate" before, and the only context they have is this thread. Maybe they actually looked it up? Your teachings abound! 😁 Have you ever been in the town? As a San Diego boy, non- member, I have some "fond" - ahem- memories of both the booming metropolis 😉 and its magic elixir 🤐 1

Had to check if my potential joke in response to his wife pouring it down the drain was good for cleaning out the pipes worked…I was thinking it was a hotter side of the spectrum hot sauce…I think I lost track of the conversation, lol. Found out my potential joke had no potential. Otoh, Navidad’s comment is now cracking me up. Edited August 13, 2023 by Calm 1
