Nofear Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Anybody know anything via not official channels? There are a few comments on this reddit thread but still a year old. https://www.reddit.com/r/latterdaysaints/comments/sv4fmn/does_anyone_know_when_the_new_hymn_book_is_coming/ 3
Doctrine 612 Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I am also interested in this information. I just hope how great thou art is still in the hymn book
rpn Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I think the last update was in Fall of 2021 and they said several more years. 1
Buckeye Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 I’ve been wondering myself. When the new hymnal project was announced, I took to wondering “will this be the last time I ever sing this hymn” every time we sang an uncommon hymn in church. At first that made me appreciate the text more and concentrate on its meaning, but I’ve started to lapse as the project is taking so long. 1
Hamilton Porter Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 I'm sick of the funeral music every week, TBH. Can't come fast enough. 1
Bernard Gui Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 (edited) Other than getting us brethren to do our ministering, this is probably the most difficult task of the Restoration. Edited March 16, 2023 by Bernard Gui 1

Why is ministry so difficult for people? i must be lucky to have a companion that lives to go out and family that loves us to visit.
Durangout Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 FWIW, I think the following changes should be made: -Praise to the Man should definitely be removed from our hymnal. It really comes across as worshiping JS. - Either remove We thank thee oh God for a prophet or at the very least change the name / opening line. We should be worshiping God / Christ not men.

Lol- add me to that list. I minister constantly to people. In fact, I do it for a living. But assigned lists are like attaching cement to my ankles. I do it, but it’s hard. Don’t know why. I like to think I could’ve created a new hymn book within a year’s time. It would have included “I’ll fly away” though 😍
JAHS Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I remember when Gladys Knight became a member she wanted to jazz up the hymns a little to make them more lively. I wonder if she is going to have any say in it? 1

I don’t think all those 19th-Century European Protestant hymns will make the cut. Most of the sacrament hymns might stay. Maybe some of the non-American Restoration hymns? I hope they add a few Polish Christmas carols. Edited March 28, 2023 by Bernard Gui 1

I reckon a lot of folks would like a say, but that’s the problem with music today. It’s so diversified and everyone . There’s the rockers, the Reggae types, the Classical, the folk, the indigenous, the gospel bunch, bluegrass, all the jazz and pop genres, hip hop, disco…ok, no disco, and on and on, and that’s just American music. What about Tonga, Korea, Uruguay, Switzerland, and on and on. About the only music most of the world has in common, unfortunately, is American-style pop music, our very worst export. Maybe some rap would work?
