When we hear of "openly gay" this or that's (a prominent one was the missionary who made Facebook videos), it gives certain impressions that seem shocking. All it means (in your article, or with the missionary) is that they are attracted to men. Not that they are openly living a gay lifestyle (which is the impression that "openly gay" conveys).

I wish there more precision of language with this (cue @Nehor posting a gif of Katie Holmes from "The Giver"). :)

But he has foregone marriage because of his same sex attraction.  I guess I don't really understand.  Is he really that repulsed by women that he couldn't function in a marriage?

Just think. If he could have forced it the lucky lady in question could enjoy a whole lifetime of feeling physically undesirable.

If the tables were turned would you be able to function in a SSM?  I wouldn't.

One of my mission companions came home to find out his parents were divorcing because his Dad decided after 25 years and 3 kids that he was gay.  You're telling me that he has no attraction to women?  I'm not buying it.

Absolutely I would not.  What percentage of the exploding number of people who identify as LGBTQ #&$$$(( are as disgusted by the opposite gender as I am of homosexuality?  I'd say 0.001% at most.  Evolution would dictate that this trait would be selected against.  The number of people who come out as gay in society today is due to education and how they're programmed at an early age.

The idea that the Church should be placing gay men into leadership callings for young people to turn to and look up to is something I hope never comes to pass.

Not necessarily. Having some adults as homosexual means more adults (uncles and aunts) likely caring for a particular set of children in the original traditional family of small clans/family groups.  Homosexual is not identical or equivalent to uninterested in raising or even producing children.  There have also been societies who have divided sex with women and sex with males (boys or men) into two different activities with different purposes.

Is it impossible for a gay man to be faithful and righteous in your view?

It’s already coming to pass. And it’s a good thing. I would hope that gay members have amazing, faithful, examples to look up too.

Your comment comes across as judgmental and lacking charity.

No, I just think someone's struggles with same gender attraction should be a private discussion with the bishop.  It shouldn't be something that is put up in a pride parade, especially not at Church.  And I certainly don't want my kids being taught at church that they might be homosexual.  I think most of them just want to be able to have sex with anyone or anything they want.  Actually having no attraction for the opposite gender is very rare and has a lot more to do with nurture than it does nature.

That's my judgment.  If that lacks charity than perhaps you think Jehovah of the Old Testament lacks charity as well.  If you've read the scriptures Bluebell, you don't understand them.

No offense but I’m not very concerned with your judgment of me either. 😁

Does a man have to be married to serve on the high council?

I live in a state with legal cannabis.  I hold a high council at least once a week.  And it is generally married couples who join.

Quite a few of them. Seriously try to discuss heterosexual sex with a bunch of gay guys some time. Some are indifferent but many find it disgusting.

You are making generalizations based on your imagination of what the LGBTQ community is like based on no data and your own mental speculation of what you think it must be like.

There is a reason bisexuals are often distrusted by gay (and straight) people. Meanwhile asexuals confuse everyone.

I didn't say all.  I see it happening a lot though.  And the right to have sex with anyone or anything at any time while teaching your children to do likewise seems to be where the argument is headed politically.  How else do you explain my old companions father deciding he was gay after being married for 25 years and having three kids?  He claims he's gay now and not attracted to women.  How did he manage to have kids?  They didn't have test tube babies and surrogates back then.  How does the affliction of same gender attraction persist in the population if not through bisexuals?

Okay, you can have sex against your orientation if you try hard enough. The parts works the same. In practice this often involves imagining a different partner or operating entirely…….you know what, I am not going to explain sex to you. I do find it disheartening that your grasp of how it works is this shallow. Guessing you also believe it is vital that parents alone handle sex ed?

The affliction? LOL! You are assuming that same gender attraction is entirely genetic? If it were identical twins would always have the same sexuality. They do not. There is a nature component. The nurture component appears to happen on an unconscious level. The current prevailing hypothesis is epigenetics but it is not a finished thing. As it stands we can pretty much rule out it being entirely genetic. Also if bisexuality is the norm why do so few identify as bi? We do have to factor in that most bisexuals can camouflage if they have to but even still there aren’t that many of them for homosexuality to be an extreme version.

Or perhaps if you found out one of your children was bisexual or homosexuality you would have to question your own sexuality and/or that of your spouse? Oh boy.

You might want to do some research in sexual arousal.  It is not always common sense or expected. For example, individuals may get aroused while being raped and it is not because of enjoyment or desire.

How is same gender attraction not an affliction, especially for those born LDS?  You're dang right there's a huge nurture component to it and the left knows this as well.  That's why they're fighting so hard to be able to inculcate their homosexual propaganda to Kindergarten through third graders in compulsory public education.  I see plenty of fire and brimstone on the horizon for our culture if they succeed.

Mate, that's your culture talking. Rigorous studies indicate that around 90 per cent of American men who self-identify as purely 'heterosexual' experience sexual arousal when exposed to gay porn.

In Indonesia, it can be virtually impossible to distinguish between male and female prostitutes, and no one cares. As one of my workmates pointed out, the body doesn't care what gender a sexual partner is; only the mind does. And in cultures where the mind hasn't been taught to care, it's a non-issue.

All sexual identity is a late 19th-century Western social construct.

What homosexual propaganda? You do realize it was literally untrue propaganda that convinced you that teachers are teaching anything about homosexuality beyond some couples are two men or two women right? Do you think they are showing gay porn or something? What are they telling you?

As one of the afflicted born LDS I thank you for your……not sympathy…..not empathy……acknowledgement……maybe?

I'm sorry for your struggles.  And I'm sorry if I've been offensive.  I'm just speaking from my own paradigm in an effort to understand this.  My impression was similar to President Packer who I think didn't ever believe people were born exclusively gay.  I think same gender attraction exists for some.  But Pres Packer was pretty clear in using the words "so called gay.  I do still believe that same gender attraction should be a private issue.  Why are you not married and in the bishopric asks a 5 year old.  Oh that's because I'm gay.  That shouldn't be how the conversation goes.

There is an avalanche of indoctrination.  Not just in public schools but in the corporate world, colleges, dominant media, etc.  Witness the extremes of Disney Corporation.  The public is pushing back at them and Florida is finally rethinking the lucrative tax treatment of Disney's "amusement" parks.

If you think that transvestites behaving weirdly and adorned in ridiculous paraphernalia grandstanding to the little ones in public libraries is NOT propaganda then you are off your rocker.  The incidents of teachers behaving inappropriately with students conceivably could greatly outnumber those of the Catholic Church and other large institutions.

The extremes at Disney? The background kiss?

I am off my rocker and you are seriously saying that teachers involved in literal sex abuse of a child are due to propaganda in schools? Ummmm……hard to believe you are on your rocker. And again, WHAT IS THE PROPAGANDA?

There are talking heads on TV endlessly spreading fear of how kids are being taught “bad things” but no one will elucidate what horrors these kindergarteners are being taught. It is all vague insinuation without clarification. It is a pernicious form of propaganda because it is never proven or shown beyond vague anecdotes and is impossible to disprove. It is bad journalism if you can even call it journalism.

I've taught many kindergarten classes, and that wasn't in the curriculum. Teachers have to keep up with so much of it, it's hard to believe they'd have time to teach them to be gay. And I've yet to see the facts from these people that listen to Fox news.

Facts would only muddle the issue. Why do that when you can just repeat the assertion enough times until people assume it is proven?
