Fether Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Love these guys. Thought they touched on an important topic here
Tacenda Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) Young and Dumb, how fitting for Kwaku. When he has a party like that against the rules of covid at a critical point in the pandemic. And Cardon saying he'd never marry a Democrat, well our own Sister Eubank, Sharon, is a Democrat. Brad is my favorite! Edited February 4, 2022 by Tacenda
Bob Crockett Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) These guys are thugs and morons. Idiots as well... Because FAIR once endorsed them, I urge everyone to boycott FAIR and suspend contributions. Edited February 4, 2022 by Bob Crockett 1

bluebell Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) Man, I want to like these guys, but they don't come off as all that likeable in this podcast (at least in the first half. I haven't watched the last half yet). They sound pretty judgmental and a tad self-righteous and just.....immature. It's probably partly my age because I'm (hopefully!) not the target audience, and maybe their other podcasts are better. I get what they are trying to say and I agree. But they are so cringy sometimes. You can't call a bunch of women you don't know names and imply bad things about them in a story about how it's not Christlike to judge others without illustrating how you are exactly the same as the people you are trying to make fun of. I lost their message trying to sift through that 7th grade drama. Edited February 4, 2022 by bluebell 2

Fether Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) I think these guys are great. Not that I agree with all they have to say, but it is extremely refreshing to hear voices other than academics and 80 year olds talk about church topics. Kwaku is 70% cringe for me, brad is the great equalizer of it all. Brings it all home and adds good substance. Edited February 4, 2022 by Fether 1

Like fether said, we need people who aren't academics and 80 years old to talk about church stuff. We need people who can relate to younger audiences, and who younger audiences can relate to. But they (Kwaku anyway), fills the void in ways that I do think do more damage than good right now. 1

I don’t think Kwaku needs to be suppressed or anything, I don’t even think his views are bad or inherently wrong. I think we just need more people his age getting involved. 1
Fether Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 I wasn’t going to be so generalizing with this comment, but I think it is true. Every single faithful church focused, “appropriate” and “orthodox” podcast, interview, talk, etc. sounds scripted and carefully worded… and it’s frustrating. Whether it is FAIRLDS, Saints Unscripted, GC, 70s, BYU speech or LDS Living podcast, You get the same thing from everyone. These smaller podcasts are bringing life to the faith and I just wish there were more. I thrive in the Midnight Mormons, This Week in Mormon, and an occasional “Leading Saints” podcast. Ive considered doing one just to get more content out there.

But sometimes that Kwaku kind of makes the church look bad, like a lot of LDS youth aren't living up to the standards of the church as far as chastity and porn usage according to this particular podcast. Whoa, I had no idea it was this bad.

The problem is not Kwaku but Cardon Ellis, who is extremely thin in Mormon apologia and intensely committed to insults. I fully support the proposition that no General Authority should ever again speak at a FAIR conference, nor should anybody affiliated with BYU or Interpreter. Personally, I cannot stand President Wilcox (young men general president), but I know so many that love him and his talks. We are all a bit different and need a bit different of a message. No one yet has been able to communicate to the crowd Kwaku is now communicating with. 2

I think great value can be found in imperfect and messy opinions and interpretations. virtually all messages coming from the church for the last 200 years has come with a “this is 100% correct” tag attached. I enjoy hearing these opinion based and hard hitting conversations. Again, I don’t agree with a lot of it, but it gets me thinking more deeply about things that I have been soon fed my entire life 1

James 1 5 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Not my kind of guys. To get to the point: the counsel to avoid every "appearance" of evil would be better translated as avoid every "form" of evil. I suppose those guys were trying to be funny and use up about 30 minutes of their radio air time. 1

They also are not on the radio. From what I can tell based off of their posting habits, they get together every couple weeks and spend like 3 hours going over different topics, then they chop that 3hr video up into shorter videos from 6 minutes to an hour based on the topic they were on. Fether Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 And the fact they are having these honest interactions with people of all persuasions and not asking them to censor their thoughts is a HUGE deal. Jonathan Streeter, Kate Kelly, the unbearably cringeworthy debate with RFM, Chris Hannah, some Messianic jewish Israelite, and other lesser renown people with varying views on the gospel have all been on and been able to speak their thoughts openly with zero censoring.

One of the worst things we can do, but that we do all the time, is to assume that what works for us works for everyone, and conversely, that what doesn't work for us also won't work for anyone else. 1
Fether Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 5 minutes ago, bluebell said: What don't you like about Wilcox's talks? the short and blunt answer: he seems intellectually dishonest and the tone of voice he has seems to be a fabricated attempt to emotionally affect someone. For a few years he seemed to only talk about grace. It seemed to have become a gospel hobby, and I didn’t particularly love his take. I don’t think it is wrong, I just think he went too far in trying to connect traditional Christian views with our own. He also is just a little to happy, a very “everything is awesome” type guy. I saw him in a “debate” with an evangelical and he spent the entire time trying to convince everyone we were all the same and should be friends. The evangelical would pose a good question and he would respond with some mini speech about how there is a misunderstanding and we are all the same. I want to say he seems naive, but that is likely just because I lack the vocabulary Naive probably isn’t the best word… he knows a lot and has experienced a lot… I’m not sure Frankly… it may all just be his voice. It’s sorta winey and he always sounds like he is pleading… but like a faux plead… idk. Im a natural skeptic and so it all seems disingenuous and fabricated. There just seems to be a wall or mask he wears cognitively I recognize that I’m probably wrong and that he is just as genuine as everyone else, but I just emotionally can’t buy it right now. 2
Bob Crockett Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Don't judge him on his voice. It is weird. His message has been affirmative in support of the atonement. 1

I think we are a lot like other Christians, except for the additional things we believe that they do not believe. I believe we believe more than they do, and we do have a lot of beliefs in common. Same Jesus, even though some of them don't believe that. Same Father in heaven. Same Holy Ghost. Same Bible, even though we believe it more and better than they do. And a LOT of other things we believe that they do not believe.
