Beachrrr Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 A bit of context: I'm not American and no member of the LDS church. I want to give a meaningful gift to a business relation that I consider to be a dear friend. Being Eurotrash from a place where old stuff litters the street, I found an early, 13th century bible. My friend is a very devout person and I thought giving him a very early bible would be a great way to show support for their religious life as ell as being a valuable gift. But since I know absolutely nothing about religious LDS practices, I'm now doubting if I'm not going to do a cultural faux-pas... So is this a good gift? If not, what can I get someone who's very devout, but who I respect and appreciate tremendously. It needs to be more than just expensive. I want it to be a thoughtful gift. Thanks a lot!
sunstoned Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 It is a very nice and appropriate gift.
Stargazer Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Holy cow! That would be a GREAT gift! I have a Bible printed in the 1800's and I really treasure it.
Kenngo1969 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Fine wine and fine cigars are both out of the question. Just sayin'!

bluebell Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 That sounds like an extremely thoughtful gift.
Rain Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 I too think it is a very thoughtful gift - for some people. Does your friend like old things/records/writings etc? If not then it may not be a good gift. Some of my friends would be thrilled at the bible. I would think it was cool and very thoughtful, but wouldn't really know what to do with it. So as a religious item I think it is great. You are right on with the spiritual nature of it and if it has names/births/dates or anything like that then your friend may be even more excited about it. You have to ask yourself though if this is the kind of thing your friend talks about or seeks out in museums etc. Or is this a friend who really likes modern things and keeps a minimalist house? 2
gregory_underscore Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 We believe in the Bible just as any other Christain faith, He will like this gift.

Generally, almost any member of the Church would be very pleased with such a gift. For those members of the Church who value books, it would be an outstanding gift. Few things would be valued more than such a gift.
