Does preaching the gospel exclude an hourly pay? That is not a ministerial salary. It certainly includes the cost of travel, food, hotel stays..... And then there is that playing concerts thing. I suppose I should look into whether he gets the money for selling concert CDs or that gets fed back into his ministry. Lastly, there seems to be the issue that he started his own thing rather than do this stuff under the "ministry" of his parents... maybe that is a good thing, but maybe he liked the thought of traveling around the country doing his own thing free of personal expenses.

The guy does seem somewhat OK to me. He is not a virulent anti, but the CFR was whether he collects money for doing what he does. And he does.

No. If you go through the parent .com directory you can link to it through the donations link. He definitely does ask for donations.

As i recall from some years ago, his dad was the motivating factor in leaving the Church, but the sons def followed. They puff up the Bible, while making the Church look bad as if it has nothing to do with the Bible. They sell essentially a "Pauline" evangelical type message of free grace. To the extent that they didn't find born again salvation in the Church, I am glad they finally found it. I think a Christian should find that early in their Christian experience. Maybe some people need a more emotional experience than they seem to find sometimes in the Church. Or maybe some people thirst for the spotlight. I don't know. I wish him well, and hope one day he sees more truth in the gospel than the first step of born again salvation.

Thanks, I'm glad I did. I saw the free materials page.

I don't think we'd see that too often on the Deseret Bookstore website, where it seems we see so many apostles and prophets selling their stuff (books etc.) I think I'd faint if the DB store did what admasroadministry did here.

Deseretbook is a for profit store, not a ministry.  A better comparison would be the lds.org nonprofit church distribution  (I have been told stuff is sold at cost or less)

You can get all the books and talks through the gospel library app for free.

Free kindle books:

I thought I might add links for the whole gospel library the Church has made available for free for android devices through the Google play store, and for iphones through the apple app store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa&hl=en

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gospel-library/id598329798?mt=8

You can download all the scriptures, all the public Church manuals, all the conference talks, the new history of the Church, lesson manuals, etc all for free in one program - the gospel library. No more buying a quad to lug around. Basically anything the Church would use to teach, you can get for free in the convenient size of your phone or tablet. How awesome is that? All with search capabilities - it just makes learning so easy. It beats the days when you had to buy a program like gospel link.  I think that is one of the things allowing us to go to a 2 hour block - the Church has made it very easy for families to teach the gospel to themselves.

The Church gets kudos here.

And the Joseph Smith Papers online

That has to be expensive.

"You either understand or you choose to create a false story." I can assure you that trying to understand the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not such a dichotomy. It is hard work and it takes consistent effort over a long period of time. I read all the quotes above about Joseph Smith's role in heavenly access. I found those quotes a bit disturbing. I don't understand and I am not choosing to create a false story. But I won't ask for any more explanation. I never interpreted the New Testament verses as they have been interpreted above. It is all interesting to read different perspectives and interpretations. I wish there was a way to have a dialogical communication, instead of a series of monological statements. But, this is a forum and that just doesn't happen that way. Too bad.

There is a wide range of people that participate on this board. You have the sincerely interested - they enjoy discovering the beliefs of others and sharing. You have those that are perplexed or confused and seeking information. Then you have the negative critics (different from a positive critic) that just seek to tear down, always put a negative spin on every topic, and without any interest in finding truth. I was dealing with the later of these in this post. As such, I will answer in a wholly different way then I would if I was talking with any of the first two.

Fair enough! LDS Christian beliefs can be very complex. And quite frankly, in my opinion (for whatever that is worth) on many issues those beliefs go quite deep into explaining what is usually considered unexplained. I like that. Best to you.

I do believe that fundamentally we must accept the concept that God remains a sacred mystery in most areas of belief, dogma, and doctrine. The Church of Jesus Christ does provide answers to a wide range of questions, but these answers do not cover everything and often will create more questions than what is answered. For those that must have concrete answers will either learn to accept this sacred mystery or they will reject a spiritual life in favor of believing in the heights (or depths, depending upon perspective) of man's own wisdom.

Cheers my friend,

Cheers my friend,

I would appreciate it if you could list two or three of the sacred mysteries of which you speak?

Hello Teddy, the mystery of God is anything that demands faith or where there is no answer. Who or what is justice that is able to demand the blood of the Son of God to enable the resurrection of God's children? What is the First Cause? These are two that come immediately to mind. I am not saying that these mysteries are eternal, but rather they are beyond our understanding as mortals.

At the risk of appearing  arrogant, I don’t find either of these two issues mysteries.

1. Since the Father’s plan of salvation calls for each of His spirit children to leave the safety of His immediate presence and enter a fallen state where there is a good chance they will be called upon to suffer the most extreme physical, emotional and spiritual suffering that mortals can endure, and this that they might be refined and purified in order to be truly grateful for and able to fully appreciate the blessings of salvation, it was expedient that He not only be one who knows perfectly how to talk the talk of the plan of salvation, but also how to perfectly walk the walk concerning the extremely difficult challenges of mortality. And in consideration of the fact that He is the eternal God who possesses all power in heaven and earth, it was expedient that He be called upon to suffer far beyond the sufferings that weak, fallen mortals are capable of enduring.

2. According to Lehi’s discourse in 2 Nephi 2, there was and could be no first cause because only nothing and nothingness can come from nothing. Nothing is unable to do anything at all. Lehi testifies that in order for all things to exist and consist there must be a framework of eternal opposition in all things, such as God and the son of perdition being in polar opposition to each other, otherwise nothing would exist an there would be nothing but nothingness, and nothing has no will to be a first cause. So a being — or beings — whom we call God had to exist from all eternity to eternity in a course of one eternal round in which there is no beginning nor end.

These don't seem to address the two mysteries I mentioned:

  1. Here you don't address that Justice needed to be satisfied by the blood of diety so that humanity might be resurrected. You don't address who or what is justice and how it is empowered to force anything upon God. Is it strictly a self-imposed restriction or something else. I know of no scripture that answers this question.
  2. I love 2 Nephi chapter 2 - it is such a wonderful, short dissertation on life, its meaning, and purpose. However, it does not address the First Cause. A few of the prophets talk about God's parents - thus, the God of this universe may be our God, but there are other dimensions or universes that his parents are God. The problem with this process is that it only engenders more questions - where is the First Cause? Who is the first God? Our position on this topic creates a mystery and it is unanswered in scripture or by prophetic discussion.

Yeah, I've heard this guy before. Actually his whole family left the Church. He seems to enjoy his "ministry" of going around the country collecting money to bad-mouth the Church. To each their own.

I forgot to mention that his brother was playing th background music for his testimony.  It makes people think it is the Spirit but its only the music.

I kinda think the brothers do a Christian music type thing. The "ministry" allows them to tour for probably close to free or with a little extra to pay a wage for speaking time. They probably sell music CDs to pay for equipment to make their free materials, and to try to "hit it big" with a Christian song. The parents aren't into music so the kids broke off to do their own thing. LDS services just don't lend to this type of "ministry." Saturday's Warriors was probably the closest to it.  LDS musicians don't make it big by going around to ward buildings doing performances. That is more of an entertainment thing than a worship thing in LDS culture.

Chicken and egg   == there was no first chicken, no first egg.    For each egg, there was a chicken, vise versa.  They are both eternal entities.
