Hello, I'm new here. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Josh, and I'm a fundamentalist Mormon. I've always been awful at argumentation and apologetics, which is my main reason for joining. I'd like to change that about myself. I look forward to good conversation :) God bless.

Welcome!  Can you explain a little more what you mean by fundamentalist Mormon?  Are you a polygamist or are you a fundamentalist mormon in other ways?

Welcome, you won't learn anything from me as I am not very scholarly nor desire to be..just keep learning and trying to retain good points and real history.  I am the local resigned member so bear with me.  Perhaps we can learn together.  Many hugs..Jeanne..

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I'm a member of the Apostolic United Brethren. For those who are unfamiliar with our beliefs, the main differences between us and other fundamentalist groups (from what I see) are:

   - We believe the LDS Church is still the true Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and that it still functions under some level of proper Priesthood.

   - We believe in the agency of women to marry whom they choose, and they must be of proper age.

   - We believe that the rightful keys of the Priesthood have been passed down to a man named Lynn Thompson.

   - We believe that wives are intelligent councilors to the husband, and that they absolutely must be listened to (our group has been accused of being feminist believe it or not)

The difference between us and main stream LDS beliefs are:

   - Belief in the doctrine of Plurality of Wives and that it is necessary and required to be lived in order to obtain the highest degree of Celestial Glory, and that it is the only form of marriage that exists in the afterlife.

   - Belief in the Adam-God doctrine (we refer it as Adam-God Doctrine, not Adam-God Theory).

   - Belief in the doctrine of disillusionment (that the Church, Priesthood, and Kingdom of God are each separate entities).

   - Belief in the literal/legal and spiritual consecration of all possessions to God (which is done through the Bishopric).

   - I wouldn't say belief, but we try and practice United Order as done under Brigham Young.

   - Naturally, as a fundamentalist, my views are also a big more rigid in regards to the cultural issues going on today (abortion, gays, political correctness). I can reasonably assume that that's the same for all fundamentalists.

   - We believe blacks do not have rights to the Priesthood yet (emphasis on "yet").

And in regards to finding wives, I can't speak for everyone, but my experience and what I was taught, was that it's always a bad idea to be actively searching for wives after your first marriage. Total concentration and effort should be made with your first wife so she feels secure and that your not out looking at other women. Just focus on that first marriage and trust that the second will come along :) If your not married to a first wife, then I have no advice. I don't even know I got married once lol

This should be interesting. After 25 posts you can start threads in any forum. Repost your similarities/differences post in the General forum at that point and discussions will ensue. Until then, welcome .

Thank you very much :) I was sad to see I have to do 25 posts lol. I have some things I'd love to discuss.

...except you're a complete apostate to that Church (if you ever were a part of it).  Sorry man, but you can't have that both ways.

Thanks for telling us more about yourself Josh.  You should be an interesting addition to the board.  :)

Is it bad manners to ask how many wives and children you have?  I'm just being curious so no problem if you'd rather not say.

Thanks for joining us.  I would love to hear how you practice the United Order given how different government is these days.

And if there is any expectations about timing as far as Priesthood and blacks.

I feel sadness for your church's members, pointing to the last sentence in this post about believing blacks do not have rights to the priesthood. I went to a movie an hour ago that is true story called "Blackkklansmen". So this hit very hard when I read this. I'm a born in the covenant Mormon, and I'm sick about that part of our Mormon heritage. Some days it's very difficult to know especially when viewing a movie like this. For heaven's sake it's also made me sick to know our country did what they did with the blacks. This is all on the surface right now because my head is in that movie right now. But I will just let this rest because I'm in a "Social" thread. You sound like a very nice man though.

Hey I totally get it! Especially in our current state of politics. It's a sensitive issue for sure. I do want people to know that my stance on it comes from love and not hate. And I mean love towards the black community as well...which I'd love to discuss as soon as I can make posts lol i have two wives :) only one child though... which is sad. I desperately want more lol. And living united order in our current government does make it impossible in certain areas for sure. We just do our best to follow it while staying adhering to the laws of our current system. We are very much out of order for sure lol just doing as best we can with what we have.

Do you belong to the same church as the Brown's in "Sister Wives"? If I didn't know better I'd think they were LDS. I really enjoy watching the fun they have as a family and the love they share.

Yes I do :) robyn is my cousin from another mother lol. Though they are largely unsupported by our people. But as we advocate free agency, that's their right :) a whole topic of discussion there for sure as the show is very unrealistic and inaccurately portrays what's going on. Entertaining though lol that's just reality tv for you.

Why are they unsupported by your community?

A few reasons. First, we believe it to be a sacred life style that should not be show cased. Basically, it's viewed as bordering on being sacrilegious. Second, we hold strongly to the words of Brigham Young wherein he stated that (paraphrasing), "the day Mormons shake hands with the world in fellowship is the day we can know we are in league with the devil." The t.v. shows aim is to gain political and social acceptance from western society. And third, we have always felt strongly that the more we are accepted, the more that homosexuality will be accepted. We would rather remain unaccepted from a social perspective. At least for the time being.

Josh, I hope you feel welcome here. You will be one of many differing opinions from a wide range of people.

I look forward to hearing more from you.  :D

Thanks for explaining. That’s pretty interesting.

I’m from the Lovell/Byron/Powell area of Wyoming and I know there’s an enclave of polygamists in that there (a girl I knew growing up married into it). I have no idea what church they belong to though.
