Hastening the Work

Recommended Posts

We’ve been hearing the last few conferences about the Lord hastening His work. This last conference we were told that the changes to the MP organization was to this end. Also we see temples announced for India and Russia for the first times.

i know when the hasten his work language started  critics said it was just a scriptural catchphrase and didn’t mean anything. After the changes of last weekend, I don’t think that’s the case. The Lord is up to something. I think it would be wise if we paid attention before it’s too late

What do you think "hastening the work" means?

Speeding up the work

I wouldn't mind if there was some "hastening" of the wireless internet speed in my church building.

Let's just be happy they aren't getting rid of WiFi (see the other thread)

Can you give some examples of “hastening the work”? I’m not sure I understand it, unless it is in this context:

Quote

Matt 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Or

Quote

Jacob 5:71 And the Lord of the vineyard said unto them: Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might. For behold, this is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.

Is this what it means?

I bought a book in the 1990's by Elder Robert E. Wells, no less, called "Hasten the Work" he talks about the 3 fold mission of the Church and how it's speeding up, i.e. advances in tech. more options to hear the gospel on this side or that, it's a good read

I would just be okay if those who were not using it would turn off auto-connect. The computers in the Clerk's Office are on it and it can slow to a crawl when you have two wards in the building.

I find the major renovations of a very large number of temples to be interesting in this respect. I find it hard to believe that so many temples just happened to fall apart in the last 5 years, especially given the standard to which temples are built in the first place. And the renovations are not just a coat of paint. In many cases, they seem to be almost a complete rebuild.

The Church just reported its lowest number of converts baptisms for nearly 20 years, and a decreasing number of new children of record. What is it that you think the Lord is up to?

My sister in law’s father is security for the church...I have no idea how much he knows, but according to him, they New announcements are just the beginning.  There’s a lot more coming.

Take that for what it’s worth

TBH the only semi realistic Temple that would be a WOW factor for me, besides, the Hong Kong Temple, Russia, the Ukraine Temple, Rome and the rebuilding of the Nauvoo one is if they built a Temple in Mongolia, that would be very, very cool. Our Temple for me is more of a bewildering factor:unsure:

Only the finest yurt materials (yak hides, etc.) would be used for that one . . .

How exactly do you conclude it’s taking so long?

It is coming up on two centuries now. If you say you are coming quickly and people and their children and grandchildren die of old age waiting it turns into a boy who cried wolf situation. :)

The hastening didn't start two centuries ago

Do you think temples are being renovated in anticipation of an immanent celestial inspection?

Personally if that were incoming, I think hastening our humanitarian mission would be much more important. No one wants to be grouped with the goats instead of the sheep.
