Hitler's Temple Work Done?

This is problematic for a couple of reasons...

1- To the non-member, it appears to be very callous to the atrocities of Hitler's regime.

2- To the LDS, by nullifying vicarious work (in Hitler's case), or simply not allowing saving temple work to be done (holocaust survivors) for what is presumably a PR reason, it raises questions about the essentiality of temple work.

You said it.  Serious.  I think you're correct.

Am I the confused one?  Is there two threads talking about this Hitler getting baptized stuff?

Hitler's work was done by members...not just one member. I won't go into details, but if you haven't attended the temple, more than one person are involved in baptisms, sealings, endowments, etc.  Nobody raised a red flag when they saw/heard"Adolf Hitler died 1945 Berlin, Germany?"  Is temple work that boring and dry that people just go through the motions that "Adolf Hitler" gets missed on multiple occasions during different ordinances?  This wasn't just a baptism, it was marriage/sealing to his wife and parents and receiving his endowments.  At no point in time during any of these ordinances did any members/temple workers raise a red flag.

That is embarrassing and pathetic, IMO.

This was done back in early 90s.  I am not going to be embarrassed by members giving other members the benefit of the doubt while knowing if done improperly, the ordinance wouldn't be confirmed by either the proper authorities or by God if missed by them.

If you are going to invest energy into being embarrassed by stuff that happened over 25 years ago by people you don't even know the name of or their reasons for doing it, you might consider there are better things to invest your emotional energy in.

And now I am officially out of this one too.

Shoot. I should have asked you where you were going before you left.

Ah...the old "millennium" argument.

Are not these spirits in prison waiting for their temple work to be done so they can be released? I guess waiting a little while longer isn't a huge deal, but I suppose it would make sense to wait to do most temple work until the millennium when Jesus directs the work personally so we know it is all done correctly. We could get away from all of the "it will all work out in the next life" answers to the perplexing temple questions about sealings.

If time really isn't a factor, why not wait?

Answer- because members need something on which they can spend their time, whether or not it is being done effectively or accurately.

Why not wait?  Because that would make us slothful servants.

And the "millennium" argument isn't being used here as a cop out, but simply as a statement of what is to come.  We KNOW from prophecy that the millennial work is proxy work.  We KNOW from prophecy that putting the entire family of Adam into one sealed lineage is the end result.  And logic dictates that there will be many mistakes that will need fixing.

But that doesn't absolve us of our stewardships right now.  But I would agree, waiting a little longer isn't a huge deal.   1000 years our time is only a day.

KNOW  Fixed it for you :)

I have a number of employees who help me accomplish organizational goals. Mistakes are made from time to time and we correct them. But we NEVER intentionally move forward with activities we don't understand, figuring we can fix any errors later. If we discover we don't truly understand what we are doing, we don't say "we'll figure it out later" and then continue with the incorrect activities. IOW- I don't think it is slothful to have servants behave in a useful way, otherwise the servants are of no value. The Millennium argument really is a catchall to fix all of the busy work we are doing now but don't really understand or even know if we are doing it correctly.

Right, but there is a lot we can do correctly by doing enough research in the here and now.

I think we overly concern ourselves sometimes by trying to make sure the spellings match or that the dates agree, though. All we really need is to make the connection to an actual relative and then somehow describe who we have found and are talking about.
