Who loves their job and why?

I am at the point in school that I'm afraid to make the step. It's a Medical Terminology class that is 120 hours, after many medical classes after that to achieve a Medical Assistant certificate. Any encouragement to move forward would be great right about now. I've been dragging me feet for a few months now, on if I'm up for it. Lot's of money and time. And do I like to give people shots or draw blood, that's a big feet holder. I was going to go into billing and coding, but don't think I'd enjoy it.

My schooling up to now has been for that. But to be a Medical Assistant required the same courses leading up to this Medical Terminology course and goes in other directions. I could go either way. I'd consider being a CNA and working with the elderly if I could handle the diapering and showering. I'm physically not sure I could lift etc. The people that do that are very special and awesome people. Well, the good ones anyhow.

Have you thought of taking a community cooking class or Harmon's has those cooking classes. I think it might be a good place to meet women. :)

And ruin my retirement?

Thanks for the advice. I meet tons of women but nothing ever seems to work out. I suspect that since I am the common element in all these failures I might be the problem.

I doubt it, you sound like you'd be a blast to hang out with. :)

I like to think so but I haven't fallen in love in a long time so it feels like it just may never happen at this point. I am okay either way. :)

Tacenda...

I had a relative that took a course program to become a medical assistant... she loved it...  and her favorite part was the Medical Terminology.  She learned to give shots and draw blood and worked closely with the doctor...  when the doc retired she had no difficulty finding another position.  I think her training program was eight months in length.  And it has served her well all her working life.  I thought she should have used it as a stepping stone to a higher specialty such as x-ray tech, etc., but she has been content as a med asst and the patients love her... so I say "go for it" and don't fear the med term...

Wow, this school I'm going to says it takes 15 months to complete. Thank goodness I've tackled a few of the required classes this past year! I keep thinking the school is milking their students for all their worth. I maybe should have went to a different school. It's a tech college near my home.

Thanks for your wonderful advice and the story of your relative!! This school has a Radiology Tech course, maybe I should have taken it, much cheaper and shorter length. I'll check on that and see about it!

Thanks again GG!

As I understand it, there were several programs in the Med Asst category available to her... the more detailed the longer to complete.  She took the basic and was able to work with the doc who hired her, and who trained her to work "the back" with him, including shots, blood work, patient prep etc.  Things she would have gotten in the more detailed course but the doc was willing to train her based on her basic course and how well she did... otherwise it would have taken her longer... so your 15 month program sounds right and is undoubtedly more detailed than the basic course that she took.  Quit second guessing yourself... do your research into the programs and seriously decide which course you want... then go for it... Good luck.

I checked into the Radiology Tech course, I guess I thought they had one, but it was a continuing education course to go along with the course taken elsewhere. I think my neighbor who went years ago was able to take a course that is no longer offered at the tech school I'm going to. I'm pretty sure it also is a lengthy course.

I can probably guess reasonably accurately, based on what (admittedly little information) I know about your background, but, what subject(s) do you teach, if you don't mind sharing? :)

Biological anthropology (aka: Human evolution).

Since Trump got elected money has really freed up. We sold a 200k yacht, we have more projects lined up than i can count and we are moving 106 ft yacht from Jacksonville, FL to San Francisco. That will be a 35 - 45 day job, it's really nice too. I'm going to love driving Lady Claudia. We leave March 1st.

You know...rod.

I gave a real negative point of view about this loving your job stuff a while back. But I think yours might make me think this all over a little. If you are getting money to sit safely in that boat riding around in the water for a month and a half, I must concede exceptions to my rule! I am glad for you. God bless.

Hello Rory... Happy New Year...

I know you are kidding, and that you really know what incredible skill it takes... and the training/experience Rod has had to go through... and all the skill that it takes to safely sail the open sea... that's truly a lovely yacht and wouldn't it be great to travel in it...

Thanks Rory I am certainly looking forward to this trip. My usual day though is restoring yachts. I had to stick my head inside of some galley cabinets for the last few days and get them all painted. I wound up with white paint in my hair several times. i'm really glad that part is over. I'll be installing new mahogany plywood on the walls in the galley, dinning area and the saloon this week.

My main job on this voyage will be weather, navigation and keeping the watermaker running. It carries over 1200 gallons of water but with 7 people on board they will use about 300 gallons a day. The watermaker will make 1200 gallons a day or 50 gallons an hour. I'll probably run it 6 hours a day. I laugh when I think back to my trip to Polynesia on our first long voyage, we carried 44 gallons of water. If it was raining we were out in the cockpit with a bar of soap. We did have a watermaker, it made 1 gallon per hour.
