Teacher Council question

We started doing our teacher council mtg. and the question came up does the Gospel Principles, Doctrine and youth sunday school teacher have to attend every month? We have a variety of teachers and the idea is to rotate through all of them just so everybody gets some training.

Having one session during SS and another during RS/PP is supposed to assure that all of the teachers can participate (during the hour they are not teaching).   If missionaries are doing the gospel essentials class, then maybe they don't have to, but why should they be any different than others in learning how to teach better?

Everyone who has been called to a teaching position should participate.

When I was in my early twenties..I taught a Primary Class and that is when they started a teacher training course..is this like the same thing?  This would have been in the middle 70's.  I remember because we had huge binders and paperwork with a film each Sunday morning..early.

I took a teacher's course as well, and a course to help a marriage!

As I understand the manual, you hold two meetings, one each hour other than sacrament meeting and every teacher should attend a meeting every month, the one held during the hour they don't teach.  So, yes, those teachers you reference should attend every month, no rotation. Even primary is to be adjusted so their teachers can attend. I don't think it's just about training.  But it's not been rolled out to us yet, it's only my understanding from already having read the new manual.

I would say the missionaries should be an exception because they should be with their investigators and with the members in their meetings. They also spend a lot of time learning how to teach. In addition while they could be invited the ward does not have authority to make their attendance mandatory in any case.

No. This is not a class, but a council.  There is someone who leads it, like the bishop does in ward council, but there is no set teaching to it.  For example we met this last week for the first time.  Our leader had us a choose a topic for next time that we would like more help with.  We chose, "asking good questions."  The first hour chose something else.  

The leader asked some questions, but we taught each other - which really is how the church is trying to train teachers to teach classes in many ways.

interesting
