VideoGameJunkie Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 The temple garments are seen as very important and must be worn every day and night, but after we pass on, will we wear them in the next life? I always hear about angels wearing white robes, but would we wear the garments underneath? When Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith, Joseph said that Moroni had nothing on underneath his robe, but that may have been because temple garments hadn't been invented yet. What's funny is after I first went through the endowment session and went into the celestial room which symbolized heaven, I thought that we'd all be wearing the temple robes and hat in the Celestial Kingdom for eternity.

Perhaps everyone is naked. Adam and Eve were naked until they partook of the fruit. Perhaps being naked is no big deal in heaven unlike here where it is a problem. Keep in mind as well that if exalted beings are all knowing, then one can't hide their nakedness from other with clothes. We if all could see through clothing, there would be little point to it other than keeping us warm in winter. Edited January 8, 2016 by carbon dioxide
JAHS Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 We need them here to remind us of the covenants we made so we can go to heaven. Once we are there the reason we wear them will no longer exist so I doubt we will be wearing them. The angel Moroni wasn't wearing any according to Joseph Smith "I could discover that he had no other clothing on but this robe, as it was open, so that I could see into his bosom." (JSH 1: 31) 2

Ahab Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Everything on the garments is symbolic so I think in heaven we'll have what the symbols symbolize rather than just the symbols. But I imagine we could still wear the symbols if we want to. 1

VideoGameJunkie Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 I do wonder why Adam and Eve were able to run around the garden naked and Lucifer never called them on it until they ate the fruit.

thesometimesaint Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Nakedness in and of itself isn't a problem. But the loud laughter may be. 1

Zakuska Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) Well if we are to be sitting around on clouds playing harps around the celestial crystal ball. Id assume the resort would provide the fluffy white robes and the trained ma susses. Edited January 8, 2016 by Zakuska

I don't think they were nude. Naked also means naive. The garden story is just that, a story. It is the temple endowment. They became aware of themselves and were taught the facts of life and went out and started their life together. The story culminates in the sealing ordinance.
halconero Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 The Temple suggests that our transition to and from mortality to immortality is framed and mirrored (that particular verb is deliberately employed here). Also, consider the words of the initiatory and the word "until" in a very particular part. Both seem to suggest that the garment is a condition of mortality. And that's all I'll say about that. 1

It's not NAKED, it's NEKKID. Any good-ole southern boy could tell you that! Now repeat after me: "Adam and Eve was runnin' 'round the garden of Eden all nekkid." 2
janderich Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Moroni may have worn the garment at some point. Here is an interesting story very pertinent to the topic: Quote Eliza M. A. Munson reported that Joseph Smith asked her grandmother, seamstress Elizabeth Warren Allred to make these garments: It was while they were living in Nauvoo that the Prophet came to my grandmother [Elizabeth Warren Allred], who was a seamstress by trade, and told her that he had seen the Angel Moroni with the garments on, and asked her to assist him in cutting out the garment. They spread unbleached muslin out on the table, and he told her how to cut it out. She had to cut the third pair, however, before he said it was satisfactory. She told the Prophet that there would be sufficient cloth from the knee to the ankle to make a pair of sleeves, but he told her he wanted as few seams as possible and that there would be sufficient whole cloth to cut the sleeves without piecing. The first garments were made of unbleached muslin and bound with turkey red and were without collars. Later on the Prophet decided he would rather have them bound with white. Sister Emma Smith, the Prophets wife, proposed that they have a collar on as she thought they would look more finished, but at first the Prophet did not have the collars on them. After Emma Smith had made the little collars, which were not visible from the outside... The garment was to reach to the ankle and the sleeves to the wrist. The marks were always the same. (Eliza M. A. Munson, "Early Pioneer History," n.d., typescript, 1-2, LDS Church Archives, see also A House for the Most High: The Story of the Nauvoo Temple, Chaper 4 Note 2)

Not assuming this is the case because I really don't know why he did it, but Satan "calls" people on a lot of things that are right and tries to twist them into being wrong. He does that a lot so I always take anything he does or say in the scriptures with a grain of salt. 1

I home taught a couple of families in a formal nudist colony (inactive --- their parents had called me and were concerned about their children and grandchildren --- that's how we learned they were even there). A full-out nudist colony. It was west of town, with warning signs that you are entering a serious nudist colony, trespassers would be prosecuted, etc. (stylized, blue and white --- like handicapped signs --- with a father, mother, daughter and son holding hands with their backs to you). Many homes had hot tubs in their front yards, and there was a church in the colony called "The Church of the Natural Way." I hope they had pew warmers in the winter! I only ever saw naked kids while visiting (the parents wore clothes when we visited), but I didn't get the impression that anyone would really want to see any of the adults in the colony naked. That is, it seemed to me that those opting for the serious nudist lifestyle did not have physiques anyone else would want to see . . . 1

Like many other medical conditions, obesity is the result of an interplay between behavior, environment, and genetic factors.[2]Studies have identified variants in several genes that may contribute to weight gain and body fat distribution; although, only in a few cases are genes the primary cause of obesity.[3][4] [/quote] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetics_of_obesity
