It seems like a much more impressive method for coming closer to the Lord than the pondering talk but we haven't heard a peep.Are any of you guys going to start doing this? 2

Let me see if I can help, how about whalackiyet. Just say whalackiyet everyday for a month and consider the answer, you'll feel yourself closer to the Lord each day. 1

What stood out for me from the talk you've recommended is:"Years ago I read these words of President Spencer W. Kimball, which had a lasting impact on me. He said: “I have learned that where there is a prayerful heart, a hungering after righteousness, a forsaking of sins, and obedience to the commandments of God, the Lord pours out more and more light until there is finally power to pierce the heavenly veil. ... A person of such righteousness has the priceless promise that one day he shall see the Lord’s face and know that he is."” That promise resonates with similar promises elsewhere in scripture. 1

I haven't gotten to that one in my personal study yet. I usually read the prophet's talks first, then the 12, then the others... is that bad? But maybe I'll give this one a little bump and read it tomorrow morning.

He said "I learned in my life that we don’t need to be “more” of anything to start to become the person God intended us to become.God will take you as you are at this very moment and begin to work with you. All you need is a willing heart, a desire to believe, and trust in the Lord."But Elder Lawrence seems to be saying that all of us lack so we need to be more of of this or more of that, Pres. Uchtdorf seems to say you don't need to be more of something, just have a willing heart, a desire to believe and trust in the Lord. Any clues as to any reconciliation?

Any clues as to any reconciliation?I think you may have misunderstood what Pres. Uchtdorf meant when he said God would "begin to work with you..." What Elder Lawrence taught, and what Pres. Eyring often teaches, is how God does "being to work with you." 1

I think the talks fit together.Sitting in conference I was thinking, "this is what I need." But I wasn't prepared because I found myself nervous to do so.There are a whole lot of things I've thought about working on. The idea of one more was a little overwhelming, but at the same I want to be inspired to work on something I wasn't expecting like many of his examples. So I know I need to do this so I can focus on one thing where the Lord will begin to work on me instead of 93,000 things, but I have to prepare myself to accept where the Master wants to work on me first.

When one has faith in Christ in the present, he does not need to see the Lord's face in the future toknow that he is. This reminds me of something mentioned in the D&C: "And while we meditated upon these things, the Lord touched the eyes of our understandings and they were opened, and the glory of the Lord shone round about. And we beheld the glory of the Son, on the right hand of the Father, and received of his fulness; And saw the holy angels, and them who are sanctified before his throne, worshiping God, and the Lamb, who worship him forever and ever. And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!" For many, it is not their 'last' testimony that Christ lives. They don't need to see Christ, the Father,or angels to give a testimony that He lives. Regards,Jim

I need to go clean up my room...

Regards,Jim I find myself in agreement with you on this, and you are right. I have not seen Christ face to face, and only expect to do so after this life some time, but I will happily testify that I know Him as my Savior and Redeemer, and that He lives! As to "last of all", of course if you've seen him then you've gone past the point of faith and into knowledge. It's "last" because you can go no further, having arrived. Or so I take it.
