Duncan Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 As I understand it there will be some saints who make it to the Celestial Kingdom but not married and will be a ministering angel. My questions are why won't they get married but still make it to the Celestial Kingdom and what will they be doing?
snowflake Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Great question, I would like to add to that, any doctrinal info on how one becomes an angel as opposed to progressing to godhood? Thanks!
strappinglad Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 The Celestial Kingdom has 3 parts. Why does everyone have to be married? Can't they be happy just being themselves? The top shelf may have all the perks but it also has all the responsibilities.

Great question, I would like to add to that, any doctrinal info on how one becomes an angel as opposed to progressing to godhood? Thanks! Section 132 of the Doctrine and Covenants answers those questions:" 15 Therefore, if a man marry him a wife in the world, and he marry her not by me nor by my word, and he covenant with her so long as he is in the world and she with him, their covenant and marriage are not of force when they are dead, and when they are out of the world; therefore, they are not bound by any law when they are out of the world. 16 Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven, which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory. 17 For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels of God forever and ever." Glenn Wow, what a take on the scripture Matthew 22:30. Which states there is no marriage given in heaven but are like angels. Sounds a heck of a lot better than we'll be servants to those on the highest tier. Right there it is taking Jesus' words out of context. Angels are a good thing in the Bible. Angels can administer to those on earth, not in the CK as servants. Sad, people have to swallow that.
hagoth7 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) In the NT, "angel" simply means "messenger". The prophet Alma had the burning wish to be an angel. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/29.1-2?lang=eng#primary"...that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon all the face of the earth."He knew firsthand the impact of an angel, having been visited by one, and commanded to repent. John and the three Nephite disciples had a similar wish, and were transformed accordingly.https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/28.4-18?lang=eng#3https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/ether/12.17?lang=eng#16"...and all this will I do because of the thing which ye have desired of me, for ye have desired that ye might bring the souls of men unto me, while the world shall stand. And for this cause ye shall have fulness of joy; and ye shall sit down in the kingdom of my Father; yea, your joy shall be full, even as the Father hath given me fulness of joy; and ye shall be even as I am, and I am even as the Father; and the Father and I are one;"Michael, whose very name suggests the same thing promised to the three Nephites, is described in the NT as an archangel. "...Daniel 10:21 describes Michael the archangel as "your prince," and Daniel 12:1 identifies Michael as "the great prince who protects."" http://www.gotquestions.org/archangels.html Gabriel is described as an angel, and appeared to Daniel at least twice, to Mary once, and to the father of John the Baptist. Based on all the above, serving as an angel, especially a ministering one (is there any other kind?), seems to be an extremely good gig. Edited September 28, 2015 by hagoth7

One of the purposes of the Temple is to allow those marriages to continue in the next life. What do you do with those that don't want to be married?

Angels can administer to those on earth, not in the CK as servants. Sad, people have to swallow that. I do not understand your point. What do you understand by "no marriage given in heaven"? I am not sure what you mean by "not in the CK as servants". My understanding is that angels will be sent from the Celestial Kingdom to minister to those in the terrestrial and kingdom and the telestial kingdom will receive ministration from messengers from the terrestrial kingdom. They will not be servants to those in the Celestial kingdom who attain exaltation. From Doctrine and Covenants Section 76:" 86 These are they who receive not of his fulness in the eternal world, but of the Holy Spirit through the ministration of the terrestrial; 87 And the terrestrial through the ministration of the celestial. 88 And also the telestial receive it of the administering of angels who are appointed to minister for them, or who are appointed to be ministering spirits for them; for they shall be heirs of salvation." My thought is that it will be women otherwise worthy of exaltation, but unable to find an equally worthy man.I know it is not a popular statement to make on this board, but I cannot foresee any way that there will be an equal number of men and women worthy of exaltation.Which leaves women with two options: polygamy or no worthy husband. Many would prefer the latter.-guerreiro9 Of course there may wind up being more men in the Celestial Kingdom than women, so what then??? Polyandry??? As for saying that many women would prefer no worthy husband than living in a polygamous marriage in the Celestial Kingdom, I don't think that we can informedly make that call from our current perspective. I think that our perspectives will be greatly enlarged and a lot of attitudes will change when the veil is taken from our fiinite minds and we are able to comprehend the glory of the Celestial Kingdom. Paul said the we see through a glass darkly. I think that it just may be completely opaque. Glenn 2

I also wonder if our interpretation of this could be marred by the Earthly definition of 'servant' as inferior. From my understanding, Christ served, The general authorities are servants, as are local authorities. Doesn't sound too demeaning to me. 10

I was always worried that I would be an administering angel to my husband and celestial wife..that would be hell wouldn't it?
Tacenda Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I was always worried that I would be an administering angel to my husband and celestial wife..that would be hell wouldn't it?Yes, maybe that's my interpretation too somewhat, administering that way. I'm more keen on administering to mortals on earth any chance God would let me, sort of like the movie "Touched by an Angel". 1
longview Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I am wondering if the difference has to do with the amount of love in one's heart and strength of character. It probably would take a great deal of selflessness and sacrifice to care for billions of intelligences, lead them into becoming spirit children and to "endure" sheepherding the remaining 2/3 of them in mortality (the Plan of Redemption) before finding great joy in the remaining few to share Eternal Life. 1
thesometimesaint Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I was always worried that I would be an administering angel to my husband and celestial wife..that would be hell wouldn't it? Why? I feel it a pleasure, privilege, and honor to be of service to my wife. She tells me she feels the same towards me. We both want to continue to do so in the eternities. 3

The Nehor Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 As all angels who visit this earth have either been born here or will be born here they really do not serve as a reference for what celestial almost exalted Angels in celestial glory do as none of them were in that state.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) I wish there was marriage and dating in the Terrestrial and Telestial kingdoms since they'll be a lot of single men and women in those kingdoms. It seems so cruel to be alone for eternity. It also sucks that there will be singles in the 2 lower levels of the Celestial Kingdom and marriage and companionship will only be for those in the highest level of the CK. That seems like so many people will be lonely and God and Jesus said it's not good for man to be alone. Edited September 29, 2015 by VideoGameJunkie
Ginger Snaps Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 If there were more worthy men than worthy women then yes polyandry. There are three options:1) Exactly the same number of men and women.2) More men than women.3) More women than men.Which scenario do you find the most plausible?-guerreiro9I think we can declare limits on God's power, planning and foresight from our limited perspective. That being said, demographic data indicates that the male:female birth ratio is ~101:100 and that male babies are more likely to die before the age of two. Figure in biblical horrors like the slaying of the firstborn sons in Moses's time or the widespread male infanticide perpetrated by Herod during Jesus's baby-/toddlerhood, and it's not hard to imagine that there might be huge swaths of males who died before the age of accountability and will need pairing up at some point.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I think it would be a personal hell to be single forever. That's my idea of hell. Loneliness.
