Private Groups Of Members Meeting Together

podcast, facebook, personal invitation.  Other than about a half dozen people on this board or a half dozen apologists who like to rebuke me, I have never gotten any kind of council from anyone, church leader or otherwise, suggesting I consider stopping the podcast or my meeting with others.  It simply has never happened.

Then I wouldn't worry about it and would continue holding your meetings.

I certainly see nothing wrong with your meetings.

But your post is just another attempt, perhaps unconscious on your part, to provoke a certain segment of this board -- typically those who rise to the defense of the church.  I don't give a hoot one way or the other.

You got me Bob..... While I was open to such policy existing out there somewhere I doubted and was fairly certain no such thing existed.  I knew though that if such a thing did exist, it would be 5 or 6 people here who get excited when they can prove me wrong so yes while I knew my post would get people in a tizzy, it was with the intent that people here who dislike me who are also in a tizzy to prove me wrong are more likely to provide the info I had hoped for.

i know and I was being sarcastic in my first sentence and then using your post as I asked everyone else in light of it if they have considered groups like you just mentioned and why they will go out of their way to excuse those while still pushing back at mine. It is confirmation bias and not a realy grasp of church policy. I was not being snarky at you. I didn't mean for you to read it that way. I agreeing with you and asking others why they will excuse such groups.

I'm guessing that others will excuse any group that has received permission to meet, and call into question groups who either refuse to ask for permission or who claim they don't need it.

It's not an issue of double standards since each type of group is following completely different standards of operation.

Good luck. I hope I'm wrong and your group is an exception to the general rule.

Well, maybe you should check your tolerance level.   You've attempted on more than one occasion to get me jettisoned from this Board.   Why not be more tolerant of people with views which diverge from yours?

Nope, I have the Holy Ghost.

exactly.  you have proved my point. which is that we can tell ourselves anything we want.  Personally I never tell another I have the spirit.  I allow them to judge for themselves.  for example one person last night at the meeting said

Just do you know I had a great feeling at your house and appreciate a place where we can go and discuss openly.

Usually when you have to convince others you have the Holy Ghost it is because you sense others don't feel you do.

have I received permission?  I have not stated that I haven't.  IS permission required?  your building a  case on a false premise but by all means......

I'm building my case on a general principle and wasn't speaking of you specifically.

I don't think I've ever had a quarrel with you on this board so there's no reason to be so overtly defensive any time anyone says something you don't agree with. It's not always all about you personally.

But he wants it to all be about him so he will read it through that lens.

maybe I already have.... everyone here has assumed I haven't.  Also your calling it a study group.  We are not studying anything.  My Bishop and Stake president have authority over their church jurisdiction and not my home or who I have in it.  They preside over the functions the Church has given them which are spelled out in the handbooks and they preside over the sanctity of the the ward building and they are to help bring all unto Christ but their authority has limits and presiding in my home has clearly been defined as outside their limits.

And no I would have no problem notifying a leader of my meetings if I hadn't done so already.

Lastly I wouldn't ask.  I would notify them, If I hadn't done so already.  No where am I required to ask about what I may do in my home.  Again I preside there.

The thing about what you do in your own home is your business is not the potental problem; it's what you do and say to other church members where it can get tricky. The Bishop is the judge and protector of his sheep in his ward boundary and might feel uncomfortable and wonder what is being said in the group that might hinder his efforts.

However, Jesus said:  "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

So I guess if you keep that in mind and pray for God's help your efforts might bring forth some positive fruits.

as long as it is not personal I welcome divergent views as deserving space.  My complaints about you and why they almost threw you out were based on your attacks that were personal in nature and hence broke board rules.  You do acknowledge that right? otherwise all views are welcome within board rules.  I just don't have to agree with them.

I am not defensive nor angry nor embittered.  I have been chuckling all morning at this.  and I truly mean... by all means.....

And again what general rule would that be and could you CFR that for me?

Yep, you were having a good laugh at those silly Mormons.

Don't play dumb. If you play dumb long enough it actually does become permanent. Edited by The Nehor

Chuckling and being defensive are not mutually exclusive.

You are of course free to doubt me and be wrong in doing so.

Good, lying is a sin.

So do I. I certainly let you judge. Then again some peoples judgement is substandard so I don't pay that much attention to it.

No, I don't think you feel anything on the matter one way or the other. I am not under the delusion I am going to convince you.

You are a sad little weasel. This here is evidence you are just trying to provoke people. You could clarify the situation outright but instead you maintain ambiguity so you can make sad little manipulative comments like this. This is the equivalent of me telling everyone I baptized a friend in the river last week in a small private ceremony implying I never got permission and then when someone challenges me on it get all defensive and state that I never said I didn't get permission and never state it either way because this way I can imagine I am a devious puppetmaster manipulating others here:

Be careful. Envy is a sin.

I definitely should be weary of that.  Anonymous people who claim spiritual superiority when hiding behind a mask get me every time

Falling back on the old attack on anonymity cliche. How predictably boring. Try some original insult please.

Oh wait.....hold on.....

Sorry, been waiting for this call.

So tonight at my home I hosted a "lead with Faith" Support group where Latter-day Saints who were in a faith transition could meet together and support each other in their transitions while also being encouraged to press forward in faith.  It was well attended and I got several positive comments.

There is a certain private group of LDS who meet together in a private group setting to discuss that my group of people meeting together should not happen and that it frustrates them that I would be doing such as groups of LDS meeting outside of the church could be dangerous.

My question is, is there a real rule of not having small groups of LDS meet outside church to support each other in their trials?

I know some here will jump in because they don't agree with me or feel my motives are skewed or unclear but I am curious what official rules have been laid out.

What parameters have been taught both officially and unofficially as well as policy or even firmer as even perhaps doctrine?

What do you mean by "faith transition"? Leaving the church?  Having doubts and decided to stay?
