I'd tell you but then I'd be reported and banned, maybe more than from this thread.

Well, I've never been reported that I know about.

I suspect, though, that poor Tonie (who, incidentally, is no longer with us) reported me multiple times.

mormonnewbie is gone as well. And mormonmaniac.

What!!! That's a shock.  Tonie kept mysteriously using a quote from one of my published works in his sig line, to what end I could not fathom.

Anyhoo, Go Bill!   More podcasts!  Sow some seeds of doubt in your own fun way!

Tonie is a girl.

What was the quote?

Hey you dumb Giants fan [note the Hillbilly pitcher], its "Dodgers" not "Dodger."  I don't think the Giant is going to make the playoffs.

Can you help me make sense of when to use Dodger vs Dodgers?  I've attached a screen shot from the team webpage as reference.

It seems about as consistent as the team itself.  ;)

I know this is off topic, but I couldn't help myself.

I don't agree.  I think my former bishop who moonlighted by day as a plumbing contractor ought to know about depression, suicide, the date of Christ's birth and the other things that Bill says the Church abuses people with.

I get abused just by trying to parse Bill's spelling and grammar and by fighting off his "report" button pressing.  But, like I say, this thread is a wholesale waste of time as there are plenty of people like Bill and no need to single him out for abuse.  I would like to have a pint with Bill to get his perspective on things for an hour or so.

I would love that.  You near St. George or ever this way?

I have you the CFR you asked for with a direct link. Your second question is not a CAR but I will answer it anyway. I have listened to several of his podcasts. The last one I listened to was his interview with Quinn.

What I find of interest Ius that you never hear him with a positive endorsement for the church and it's current teachings. Why do you think that is?

I don't hear Doug Fabrizio give any kind of endorsement for the LDS Church and its teachings either, but I still find him scintillating and an excellent all-around interviewer -- and so fairminded.  What more can we ask for?

Obviously, coercing young girls into "marital" relationships with fear of destruction or promises of eternal salvation could never be considered abusive.

I recall a BYU professor of Japanese ethnicity, but born in Hawaii to traditional parents, whose parents arranged his marriage to a traditional, Japanese-speaking woman from Asia.  It is easy to find fault with unfamiliar customs not part of modern, Western society, but this guy did not object, but dutifully accepted the woman foisted upon him.  In the event, she was a very good, typical Japanese wife.  Until one day, when he came home from teaching at UC Berkeley one day.  She was sitting on the couch talking with a Caucasian neighbor lady.  He asked her to get him a glass of water, and she told him that he could get it himself.  He suddenly realized that she had been fully acculturated to Western ways, and never took umbrage.  He told that story to us (with a smile) in class to illustrate the meaning of different cultures, that they are not good or bad, but just different.

You pass quick judgment, HappyJack, but you might pause to consider that there always have been different customs and ways of doing things which may seem inappropriate to an outsider.  We probably need to take a closer look at some of the odd customs of those early Mormons.  Instead of speaking of "coercion" and abuse, we might want to place ourselves in that time and place and ask some hard questions about bringing in our own narrow POV.

But can presentism or cultural difference help explain away something that seems morally questionable coming from God? The "things were different back then" or "it's a different culture" seems only to work when explaining away the actions of the man, basically saying "that wasn't from God".

If God commanded someone to have a bunch of slaves back in the day, and I was concerned about that now, I don't think I'd be comfortable with the answer of "everyone had slaves back then." I'd understand the point that it was the norm for the people living then, but I'd assume God would know better than them so he wouldn't have command it.

They are idiots.   It is the Stanford Cardinal, not the Stanford Cardinals.   Kobe Bryant is a Lakers player, not a Laker.  It is the Boston Red Sox, and a player isn't a Boston Red Sock.  You're a Packers fan, not a Packer fan.  The team is the Salt Lake Real, not the Salt Lake Reals.

Actually, the name of the soccer team is Real Salt Lake, not Salt Lake Real. Real is Spanish for "royal." (Kansas City can do what Kansas City does, and use the English plural, Royals, for the baseball team and its members, but if it were to use the name the way Salt Lake's MLS team does, the team moniker would precede the city name rather than following it.)  :)

Just wondering: If I got reported would I have any way of knowing about it? Other than if I got slapped down or thread-banned or something?

Scott -- just a heads up: on average, I report about 1/3rd of your posts.

Hey, if you can find a reason to report a third of Scott's posts, you ought to be able to find a reason to report, say, half, or even three-quarters, of mine! ;)

I report a "third part" of his posts.

With that information from me you can determine absolutely nothing apparently regarding how many I've reported.

So is it settled?  I am not a priestcrafter!!! great.  So what thread shall one of you create next about me?

Sadly, this board can't even agree about what constitutes abuse, so you're probably still a priestcrafter. Sorry.

Love your podcast, BTW.

Well let's see a thread trying to nail you on priestcraft? check

A thread about you being apostate? Check

Maybe we can figure out a way to make it appear you've resurrected the gadianton code in these latter-days. Not sure we've seen that BoM nugget fulfilled as yet.

At least he's not a whiner. :)

Have you ever heard of LDS Social Services? They have trained professionals who help members and nonmembers alike deal with depression and suicidal ideas.attempts.

That's true, but don't they get paid? They are probably priestcrafters too.

Oh I am sure somebody will do something to feed your over rated sense of self importance.  Just hang in there.

I don't have a problem with people getting paid for their employment. I don't have a problem with people volunteering their time, and services to their church, or whatever. However I think we need to be clear they are not necessarily the same thing. IE; I am an old retired psychiatric social worker, and I don't expect to be paid for teaching in my High Priest Quorum.

BTW Paul was a tent maker by trade. He was paid for his tents, not his preaching.

Well, if that's true, so far you're zero for about 7,600 in terms of having follow-up action taken.

That's actually pretty weird. Are you one of the moderators? Or maybe this board just doesn't moderate very much?
