MorningStar Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Hello! A friend of mine just had a boy and a girl and she was just amazing! Hardly complained, carried them to at least 38 weeks, which is amazing, and combined she had over 13 pounds of baby in her! Two days before they were born, she was playing mini-golf with her family. I signed up to make dinner for them next week and I'm trying to think of a fun way to serve it. All I can come up with so far are two baby watermelons with a pink ribbon and blue ribbon. Are there any ice cream names associated with babies or anything in some way? I know Ben and Jerry's has all sorts of goofy names. Or a dessert I could make would be good. I'm supposed to make enough for four adults and one toddler. This is going to be so much fun!
rpn Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Make it something that will freeze and take a second pan in a container to do that for a future meal. 2
Traela Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 How about one of those containers of ice cream that's half vanilla and half chocolate? 1
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Sounds just like my wife and I. We had our twins when our oldest was just 15 months old and she carried to 37 weeks and had a VBAC. We had a boy and girl too. Ill talk to her for some ideas. I think the biggest thing they will need is diapers and 2 boppys. http://www.boppy.com/product-category/boppy-pillows/oh and a double stroller. And maybe a new van? In terms of something cute for a dinner. Well, I am not very good at that stuff. Maybe some pizza. That is always good and it is easy. Or pigs in a blanket done with red food color and others done in blue. 2
MorningStar Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 Great ideas! RPN, I really like the idea of one to freeze. Thanks!
MorningStar Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 How about one of those containers of ice cream that's half vanilla and half chocolate?Awesome! I'll do that.

Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Yeah, spoke to my wife, she said that things that are good and easy to clean up are probably the most import thing if you are going to feed them. Unless you are a good cook buy the food already prepared. And it was a zoo. I hardly remember much of the first 3 years of my twins. It was all such a blur. And I was really tired as was my wife. 1
Tacenda Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) Not to horn in but just wondering if people prefer homemade or store bought food, such as pizza. I really like the thin crust at Papa Murphy's, the chicken kind. I'm taking dinner to my husband's niece who moved to a nearby city. Morningstar, I think they'll appreciate whatever you can do. I like your idea of the watermelon, fresh fruit is always good. Oh, and be careful with spicy food, if your friend is nursing. Pinterest is my go to place for things creative along with yummy food ideas plus several LDS women post on there. Seems like they're pretty good at the meal taking thing. https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?rs=ac&len=2&q=meals+to+take+to+new+moms&term_meta%5B%5D=meals%7Cautocomplete%7C1&term_meta%5B%5D=to%7Cautocomplete%7C1&term_meta%5B%5D=take%7Cautocomplete%7C1&term_meta%5B%5D=to%7Cautocomplete%7C1&term_meta%5B%5D=new%7Cautocomplete%7C1&term_meta%5B%5D=moms%7Cautocomplete%7C1&remove_refine=yummy+deserts+for+kids%7Cautocomplete%7C3 Edited July 14, 2015 by Tacenda 2

sheilauk Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 cupcakes can be decorated in a variety of cute ways and colored. 3
Raingirl Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'm brain-dead lately when it comes to "fun", but I thought I'd just toss out one of the meals I most appreciated when I was recovering from childbirth, followed by an emergency surgery (many, many moons ago). One of the neighbors brought in a platter of sandwiches, along with a salad and dessert. I have never forgotten those sandwiches. It was such a blessing to just grab one when I was up in the middle of the night for a feeding, after having not quite remembered to eat for most of the day. Or even at lunch time. No effort needed to feed myself - no heating anything up (which always stood a fair chance of getting cold before I actually had a chance to eat), no having to haul out the ingredients to assemble my own sandwich, didn't even need to bother with a plate - just open the frig and grab a sandwich for instant sustenance. I thought it was genius. 2

I thought it was genius. It's been so hot, that's a great idea! I might not even be able to cook anything in my oven by next week depending on the weather. My baby is 8 months old now and I still remember how insanely hungry I was in the middle of the night. I don't ever remember being that hungry with my other 4 kids.
Tacenda Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 What kinds of sandwiches were they, to hold up that long in the fridge?
Meadowchik Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Make it easy to serve. If you bring watermelon, cut it first or it may just sprout on their countertops. For that, I like to slice it in half, then, one half at a time, lay the flat side down at carve off the rind. Then cube the meat. Or, leave the rind on and use a melonballer to scoop out the meat into balls. Like the others said, easy clean up is good, too. Since it's hot, I'd consider bringing a pitcher of iced lemonade. Something fun could be red ice cubes (cherry koolaid) in yellow lemonade. We have boy/girl twins as well, they were our last and were a surprise. (My profile pic was taken when they were newborns while I was looking at one of them, in fact.) The hardest thing for me with food was preparing enough fresh fruits and vegetables to eat with our meals. I'd imagine that, depending on how their twins are sleeping, they're either doing quite well with a set of grandparents there to help, or they're being run ragged by the babies and toddler, or somewhere in between. That's hard to predict. BTW the 10th postpartum day of any pregnancy is usually one where a huge drop in hormones takes place, which can lead to inexplicable tears and emotions from mama. If I were you, I'd let her know about that at the visit, while handing her her favorite kind of dessert, telling her that such a reaction is to be expected and to take extra care of herself. I think it's a great idea to bring something fun and cheerful as long as it's also easy and useful for them! I wonder what the toddler likes to eat? Something geared toward him or her might be ideal at this time, having a new brother and sister all at once might be quite overwhelming! Edited July 15, 2015 by Meadowchik 1
ERayR Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 What kinds of sandwiches were they, to hold up that long in the fridge? Made with from stuff with lots of preservatives.
Raingirl Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 What kinds of sandwiches were they, to hold up that long in the fridge? She made a variety, which was nice. Cold cuts and I forget what else. Holding up for the 2 or 3 days we ate them wasn't any sort of problem. All of the ingredients would be good for that long or longer in the fridge anyway. This way, they were just pre-assembled. There weren't any issues. I was crazy hungry after giving birth. I'm five foot nuthin', so I was just this tiny person who usually was not regular in my meal habits.....I'd get busy during the day and just never get around to eating. But I was ravenous for a while after giving birth (and the emergency surgery). While in the hospital I ate everything on every meal tray. Absolutely cleaned my plate. Well, except for the Brussels sprouts. Yuck. I don't know if it was because of childbirth or if my body was trying to make up for all of the months of morning sickness (which was all-day sickness for me) but I've never had an appetite like that before or since.
MorningStar Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 My fun plans to make dinner for them are canceled. I have shingles. Mad. So mad.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 My fun plans to make dinner for them are canceled. I have shingles. Mad. So mad.Welp, that sucks. Sorry to hear. I have heard they are quite painful.
Tacenda Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 My fun plans to make dinner for them are canceled. I have shingles. Mad. So mad.Oh, that is so painful, I'm so sorry you have to go through that. I think you need the dinners, hope your RS sisters are in tune. You'll get the chance another time I'm sure. Take care of you! Let others help you! 2
Calm Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Tacenda, i was thinking the same thing...put out a double order and anyone, Mormon or not, who is dropping stuff off at the twins' place needs to swing by and do a second drop at MS' place.
MorningStar Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Thank you. I have a sweet friend bringing over dinner tonight and another friend bringing dinner on Sunday all the way from my old ward! She's 45 minutes to an hour away. I'm so touched she would do that for me. I'll ask for more help if things don't get better by next week.
MorningStar Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 The nice thing about shingles (so far) is that the pain outweighs the itching, therefore you can resist the urge to scratch them. Ha. Haha. 1
