Why Is Organized Religion Failing

Or we, as a church, are playing right into the devil's hand by condemning a group of people without a foundation of revealed truth.

To be clear, its about condemning an immoral behavior.

Go ahead and couch it in a way that helps you sleep at night. I realize that's easy for you given your avoidance of critical thought and lack of integrity.

Well, what can I say? It is immoral and that is that. You expect me to cave in and say its okay? Forget it.

You've already said enough to answer the question posed in the OP: Why is organized religion failing?

This kind of personal insult is not acceptable. Rockpond can take a rest from the thread.

There are those who are very very happy in their church.  Nothing wrong with that..but so many have only thought one way..lived one way and have never sought happiness outside their church.  To me, this means that they cannot define happiness for others..they can't possibly understand reasoning and even great faith outside their church.  If you do wicked things..you will be unhappy period.  That goes with any religion or not.  Sometimes it is best to follow the intuitive self that knows right from wrong in any facet of the world.

I agree, people who are running organized religion are failing.

Yes, some indeed are failing. The major failing though is in the congregation who haven't heeded Gods words and holy prophets.

The moral fiber of western civilizations has been under stress since the sexual revolution. I feel most of of the social upheavals we see today have their roots in that time period.  This coincides with the decline of Christianity in Europe in particular and in the US.  I also think that all things remain in flux; they are not static.  This period will continue until people feel the need to return to what is safe, what "feels" right.  Until then society will continue its attack on all of the moral codes and mores of the past.

Personally I don't think there will be a "return" to traditional morals until the Lord forces it.

Can we just agree that everyone is a failure and move on?

No, because there is no success without failure.  It is an eternal law, the Law of Opposition, and the Law of the Harvest.  You can't have one without the other.

I am pretty sure that is completely wrong.

The Lord doesn't force obedience.  That is Satan's way.

You know what I meant.

The Lord may not force obedience but he will definitely force some major natural consequences for every broken moral law.

A lot of people used their agency and the consequences promptly removed that agency.  There is a definite connection between man's righteousness and how much agency he gets to keep.

If "all truth" is "circumscribed into one great whole" in my faith (and I believe it is), then why should I seek happiness or truth elsewhere?  That said, while I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I believe that way of living is the best way to achieve the most bounteous harvest of good fruit in my life, that doesn't mean that I believe God gives me fruit, bread, and fish when I ask for them while giving those of other faith traditions thorns, thistles, stones, and serpents when they ask for fruit, bread, and fish.  I believe God gives all of us fruit, bread, and fish when we ask for them.  Now, that doesn't mean that all seeds yield the same bounteous harvest, but if someone else is content with his thirtyfold or sixtyfold, who am I to argue with that?  On the other hand, if he wishes to know how he might increase his harvest, perhaps I have some ideas to share that would be of interest to him. :)

To me, this means that they cannot define happiness for others...

OK.  I will define "happiness" for me, and will allow him to do the same. :)

they can't possibly understand reasoning and even great faith outside their church.

Ah, but as I explained above, My Dear, I can!  (And I commend that approach to all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I have done so many times on this Board and elsewhere. :)

True: Alma 41:10.

Sometimes it is best to follow the intuitive self that knows right from wrong in any facet of the world.

While He did give me reason and intellect, and while there may be things He expects me to work out on my own using those tools (along with others), I do believe that God can tell me things that I cannot divine by my own reasoning and intellect; the same is true of any person who believes in Him. :)

A recent article that expands upon the Pew research from the Wall Street Journal on why the future of religion is bleak.
