Tacenda Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 JL, non scriptorian that I am. Do you have a scripture reference?
JLHPROF Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 JL, non scriptorian that I am. Do you have a scripture reference? That's Nephi's Psalm - 2 Nephi 4:15-35, one of my favorite BOM scriptures (I'm not much of a BOM scriptorian either - I usually stick primarily to NT & D&C).
Calm Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 does His church not praise Him daily? As far as praise organized through the Church, I think if this is important to you, you need to join the Catholic or Orthodox faith. Don't know of other faith communities who as a Church rather than individuals participate in daily praise. 1
The Nehor Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 if the only true and holy reformed church of the Lord of Lords would rather celebrate it's Savior with mockery and sarcasm, have at it. this Jesus made me a new creation, doing away with the former things! i would rather take the occasion to extol Him. Considering th Savior used sarcasm to teach I prefer to think of this sarcasm as an homage.
sunstoned Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I got two bottles of my favorite wine from my grown children.
Scott Lloyd Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) Considering th Savior used sarcasm to teach I prefer to think of this sarcasm as an homage. Not to mention some of the prophets in the scriptures. I can scarcely contain an appreciative chuckle when I read of Elijah's interaction with the priests of Baal. Some things deserve mockery -- whether it be the wickedness of idol worship (Baal) or the injustice of stereotypes (Smithmas). Edited December 29, 2014 by Scott Lloyd
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) does His church not praise Him daily? Nopeis David a heathen in your eyes? I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.(Psalm 34:1) Edited December 29, 2014 by intra
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 As far as praise organized through the Church, I think if this is important to you, you need to join the Catholic or Orthodox faith. Don't know of other faith communities who as a Church rather than individuals participate in daily praise.it's really rather astonishing that you would think of yourself as a part of the only non-apostate group of worshipers of the true God of heaven and earth, but cast aspersions on glorifying Him with all that you do. another characteristic of the the judgments of the Lord is irony. in another place, i'm mocked for quoting many scriptures and singing many psalms in exaltation of the Almighty, accusing me of "self-aggrandizing" because i glorify God, and comparing me to Zoramites, saying that 'this is not the time or place to praise the Lord'but what do your stories say was the great error of these people? that they honored Him with their lips, but not with their hearts, speaking vanities one day a week and neglecting to worship Him for the other 6. After each of the Zoramites had prayed, they went home and did not pray or talk about God again for an entire week.Alma 31:12, 23
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 The sarcasm is in your friendly smile that you place at the end of a post the smile is because to extol the Lord makes my heart glad! It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night(Psalm 92:1-2)
pogi Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 is David a heathen in your eyes? I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.(Psalm 34:1) Is David "the church"?I assumed by church, you meant an organized communal service of daily praise. We praise him individually as I already stated.
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 This board is for discussing doctrine, history, theology, and Church practices. Praising God is for worship services, prayer, and most especially in Mormonism for the Temple. If you want to praise God, we are all in favor of that. But that isn't the purpose of the website you are visiting.did He not say the time is come when His true worshipers will worship Him not on this mountain or some other, but in spirit and truth? did His apostle not teach that we ought to "pray without ceasing" ? where and when is "spirit and truth" ? once a week, in a special building? is that doctrine? this is what i would: By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.(Hebrews 13:15) by grace i am given breath to live, and by grace my tongue is loosed to speak - may your glory be always on my lips!
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Is David "the church"?I assumed by church, you meant an organized communal service of daily praise. We praise him individually as I already stated.what does scripture say the true "church" of Christ is? is it the body of Christ, or is it some human organization and division set up by men?
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 We praise him individually as I already stated.just not publicly? looka-me, i'm an individual. Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever!!

Is this how you talk at work? Do you sing the psalms of David while buying groceries? Do you only post prayers on facebook? To "pray always" means to have a prayer in your heart - in secret. Matt 6:6 - pray in secret (not on discussion boards). 1
pogi Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 just not publicly? looka-me, i'm an individual. Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever!! We don't glorify God to be seen of men, to boast in our righteousness, to put ourselves above our neighbors, to create division and divisiveness. We pray in secret and as a body of worshipers, but not to be seen of men. To do so is to use the name of God in vain. 1

To "pray always" means to have a prayer in your heart - in secret. Matt 6:6 - pray in secret (not on discussion boards).yes, yes, and no, because you are right, the Lord taught that we should not pray vainly before men, but before God, who sees what is done in secret. did the Lord teach that you ought only to praise Him in secret? Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.(Psalm 119:175) amen! He has let my soul live, and it cannot do ought else!
intra Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Is David "the church"?I assumed by church, you meant an organized communal service of daily praise. We praise him individually as I already stated.this isn't an answer, so to honor the air of discussion of doctrine, i'll ask you again. if David were to praise God continually, would you also contend with him? what if he praised God among the heathen? Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.(2 Samuel 22:50) would you say he is acting inappropriately? or would you excuse him, having respect of his person, but not of mine?
pogi Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) if David were to praise God continually, would you also contend with him? Praise God always, and sometimes use words. This is the model that all the prophets lived by. what if he praised God among the heathen? You mean the Mormons? I am fine with praising God, for the purpose of praising God and for the edification of others in creating unity in God. That clearly is not your intention. Your intention is to mock us for ever talking about anything other than Jesus. See post 16 and 19. You are doing this to prove a point, that we are less then you. Edited December 29, 2014 by pogi 1
Kenngo1969 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 if the only true and holy reformed church of the Lord of Lords would rather celebrate it's Savior with mockery and sarcasm, have at it. You've used that phrase twice now, once each on two different threads (the other, alas, is now closed), with reference to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I've never heard the Church referred to in that manner before. At the risk of being redundant, do you have a reference for that, uhhh, reference? Thanks in advance. 1

If you do not have anything to add about your joyous Smithmas and want to keep raving about this "God" and "Lord" person please start your own thread.
