Is Nami Divesting Itself Of Skousen's Critical Text Project?

I've heard this. Can anyone confirm or deny?

If true, this would serve to further confirm my read on the orientation of the current iteration of NAMI.

Thanks!

Rongo, I'm not even sure what NAMI means.  So far I've read that it has something to do with mental illness.  National Alliance for Mental Illness.

I have sometimers disease, sorry.

Mine is moving toward moretimers.

Edit:  You're doing much better than me Pa Pa!

Robert, I'm out of posts, read your comment below, that's just mean!  ;)

Rongo,

I have no idea why.  But use to live by one of Skousen's brothers, visit taught their wife, my claim to fame.  ;)

Here's a c/p from NAMI.    http://maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/watch-skousens-3-part-lecture-series-on-the-book-of-mormon-critical-text-project/  How do you know that it's divesting from Skousen's interpertations Rongo?

I just read on Daniel Peterson's blog that the Critical Texts Project is in need of a new home and that Professor Skousen has approached the Interpreter Foundation for help.

I don't know whether it can be inferred from this that the Maxwell Institute is divesting itself of the project. It would appear so.

Sounds like a rumor to me, Scott.

What would be the rumor? That Maxwell Institute is divesting itself of the project or that Professor Skousen has approached the Interpreter Foundation regarding its need for a new home and for financial assistance?

On the latter, it seems to me that Dan Peterson would be in a better position to know that than anyone else.

Again, I'm not sure of a linkage between the two, but if not, why would Skousen be approaching the Interpreter Foundation?

I invite you to go to the link to Peterson's blog and tell me what you make of it.

It could also be the Skousen has no interest in working with the Maxwell Institute. I think I read somewhere recently where it suggested Skousen did not want to work with MI. But I can't find where that would have been.

Yes, that's possible.

Dr. Peterson's blog was my source. If this is true (and I have no reason to think that it is not --- I trust Peterson as a source), this would seem to further underscore the travesty of what has become of the Maxwell Institute. At least in my view . . .

To be totally accurate, we must recognize his blog did not say the Maxwell Institute was divesting -- at least not that I saw -- only that Professor Skousen had approached Interpreter Foundation saying the project was in need of a new home and seeking monetary assistance.

As stemelbow pointed out above, it could be that Skousen no longer wants to work with Maxwell Institute.

That's a good point, Scott. The onus might be on Skousen, and not on the part of NAMI. What does that say about NAMI, though, if Skousen no longer wants to be associated with or go through them?

My read on NAMI is that the current orientation doesn't want to have anything to do with anything smacking of apologetics or defense. Or the Book of Mormon, really (and certainly not the Book of Abraham). It seems more interested in Bokovoy-esque studies.

Based on Dan's FB comments it appears Professor Skousen wants nothing more to do with the Maxwell Institute.

I believe this is the case.  DCP made a comment about Prof. Skousen not wanting anything more to do with the MI.

It may be something to do with publishing differences (copyright, costs, etc) and nothing to do with ideology.

Rongo, given that some individuals seem to jump and leap at any oppurtunity to criticize (I did not realize you might be counted among them) the current Maxwell Institute; and, that at present, neither of the two most likely individuals to do so have not created blog posts criticizing Maxwell Institute over the Skousen project, then I would say that Maxwell Institute has not divested itself of Skousens work. A plain reading of Peterson's blog clearly informs that Skousen, on his own, approached Peterson and company.

As for Skousen's project, is it considered "concluded", as Deseret News article title suggests?

That, is ironic. It seems to me most all of your posts are critical. My memory could be failing me though.

Cal: In what universe would the Maxwell Institute ever want to let the Critical Text Project part ways (assuming there aren't the grave ideological differences that Peterson and Hamblin have warned about ---- and which NAMI continues to deny)? The FARMS logo is emblazoned on the spine of my three volumes of parts 1 and 2.

Let's be honest here. Bradford, et. al. are glad not to have the last parts of the CTP published by NAMI under their watch.

And why do you suppose that Skousen wants nothing more to do with NAMI?

No, tonie. I'm a solid friend and defender of the Church. I am quite old-fashioned, though, and not a fan at all of the current direction of the Maxwell Institute.
