I wonder if Jesus will conform to the Church "Uniform" policy on his return?

 

Something tells me all the arguing over what to wear is one of those things that is unimportant in the grand skeam of things.

 

I suspect Jesus will be most interested in how many men are wearing expensive suits, and compare that with their support for the fast offering program to care for the poor.

I wear nice suites, but not expensive ones. I stick in the $500 range. I pay fast offering equal to going out to a nice restaurant twice a month.

I'd like to see someone do their priesthood duty in the temple without white pants (men).  But I'm sure you don't wear white pants and suit to Church, unless you're Colonel Sanders.

 

It's good to know that my 5 year old sister was doing her priesthood duty when she was required to wear white in the temple.

As much as I bristle against authority, this is not one of the standards that I have a problem complying with.  Prior to joining the Church, I usually wore colored shirts with my suits but went out and bought about a half dozen white shirts when I joined the Church.  Unless they are all in the cleaners (which has happened), I wear a white shirt to church.

 

I'm unusually compliant in this regard because no one has made some extraordinary claim about the propriety of white shirts (i.e., that my salvation and/or righteousness depended upon my choice of clothing).  It was simply explained to me that white is our PREFERRED color.  In that regard, I see it much like wearing the t-shirt that they hand it to the fans at an NBA playoff game.  It's just part of the whole team experience.

With all the giving we are required to do... Im surprised that we all dont dress like a bunch of Homeless people and go to church.

 

Our bishop one Sunday did that. And went to the pulpet and a gave one of the best talks on giving and judging Ive ever heard.

99% of the time, it is the unofficial uniform of the Priesthood. You don't quite measure up if you're in another color.

BTW I'd gladly throw away my one and only white shirt if it was not.

 

That my friend is false Doctrine - Please CFR for teaching by Leadership (top 15) that a white shirt is the uniform of the PH.  What your Bishop or SP say without the 15's backing is not a official stance.

I've actually been involved in stake meetings (for in coming 12 year old boys) where the stake president (and otherwise wonderful man) has made a BIG deal about 'the priesthood uniform'.  It really bothered me, and we had to sit down with our son afterwards and let them know that he misspoke when he called a white shirt and tie such a thing, and to let him know what the church actual says about priesthood duty and wearing a white shirt.

 

We ended the talk by reminding him that all the men involved are good men who are great examples to him, even if they got that one thing wrong.

O.k. So I'm not active.....I just can't resist responding to this thread.

 

When I was active I wore a white shirt 95% of the time.

 

When I was called into the Bishopric in my western states ward, All three of the Stake Presidency were there and I was immediately informed that "We are a white shirt stake" and that I should dress appropriately. Apparently my light cream colored shirt (that I only wore occasionally) wasn't fitting the bill. That would have been around 2004.

 

On the rare occasions that I do attend church now, I make it a point not to wear a white shirt.

Funny, I am in a "western states ward" right now and I am in the bishopric. I wear blue every week. I have never once been told to wear a white shirt.

 

Full disclosure I am executive secretary though and don't sit on the stand. But I am in a lot of meetings.

I'll stick to following the prophets.

I used to wear lightly colored shirts to church (boldly colored clothes have never been my thing).  But when I got called into the bishopric I switched to all white shirts because that's the cultural expectation here in my stake.  When I get released, I'll probably go back to the other shirts because I like them and because it's what I wear all week so I have a lot of them.

 

Unless of course, my leaders are unwise enough to put me back into another leadership position with the white shirt expectation.

What amazes me is where the expectation came from in the first place. Christ and his Apostles wore many bright colors to Sabbath day meetings. In fact they went to church in sandals and wore beards.  I miss the days of Brigham where the beard made the man.

 

I think it might have came out of the days of Harold B.Lee or Joseph F Smith. Of course they also wore fedoras so why don't Priesthood leaders wear them today?

We're on a stake mission, so white shirt it is at church.  Before the call, I didn't always wear one.  I will go back to that in a year.

My dad had colorful shirts, some deep maroon, dark grey and some pink.  I was shocked as a teen as I thought he would be the conservative type, but thinking back that was because he always went for quality…or more likely Mom did, more expensive but longer lasting.  I hated pink myself, but on him it looked good and it did break the monotony of ironing. I don't think there was ever any issue about him wearing them to church, he just has an intimidating, formal look about him no matter what he is wearing (he can make little kids burst into tears by just looking at them though he can be a great grandpa, he has one of those faces that unless he thinks about it he looks pretty dour).  Now if only I could get my husband to wear colorful shirts more often, but he tends to light enough they might as well be white.  

 

Now his ties…he wears Scrooge McDuck and Winnie the Pooh to church and never been scolded.  My son probably wears white just because it is less to think about.

I'm about 50%.  I used to wear colored shirts more often, but realized there was a point when I was probably doing it for the sake of being non-conformist.  I don't like either end of the social conformity spectrum, so I kind of mix it up now, between yellow, lavender, blue, white, etc.  When I am wearing a white shirt, I tend to go for a more cartoonish tie, but not always.

Cargo pants and brightly colored polo shirts.  Plenty of pockets for my scriptures and the Ensign.  I take it every week because I can not remember which week we use it for our priesthood lesson.
