Phoenix Gay Pride

Recommended Posts

Hope you enjoy conference then. I know I will :). Conference this year will include a BBQ with cousins, girls night out during priesthood session at my favorite restaurant of all time, and a fireside at genesis that includes my old song/dance group (it's my favorite one because it's like mixing gospel-style music, with a enthusiastic hodge-podge of people that are black/brown, and a mormon service all in one....basically it's the bomb). Conference weekend's the best!

So Pride is this weekend here in Phoenix. I'm so excited! Wanna know why? Because I will be at home watching General Conference instead!! I don't have patience for that mess.

I bet no one at General Conference will be wearing nothing but a speedo and an ostrich plumed, sequin-studded headress.

Sounds great! Maybe I can get some buds to come over and we'll have a shindig.

You should do it. It's become a mini-tradition with my cousin(s) and a friend or two. We head up to salt lake, eat, socialize, and enjoy a guy-free couple of hours. It's a blast. Of course, we all don't have children, which makes doing so a lot easier.

When Mrs. Darren gets with her cousin and friends for guy-free time it's anything but holy / good manners talk. I tell ya'. There are some times whem they hang out at my house. On those rare ocasions I just get a cup fo ice water and sit at the computer. The less I hear what they are talking about happier I am. ^_^

/I sure do love that woman

That was why I used smiley face...and addressed to all. Because twice a year, you guys have girls night out while W end up with "boys night in". Currently in my quick determination, Priesthood holders spend about a month per year more in meetings.

Disregarding moral issues, I am not sure why there are gay right's parades. Sure, there has been lots of violence directed at them, and that needs to stop. But, couldn't they just live quiet lives like the rest of us? Not getting this, and I'm not sure why posts about gays get on this board.

It has to do with urban demographics and a common history. At least in cities, there have often been "gay areas" where gay and lesbian people have resided and built up a community. The parades themselves are not so much celebrations about "doing the nasty," but they reflect the interests of the community as a whole -- which in and of itself is quite diverse. For example, a local bar may sponsor a float, which will be followed by a GLBT politician/celebrity in a car, which is followed by the local gay soccer team kicking a ball down the street, which is followed by a church group singing. . . etc. etc. etc.

Well, we have at least three frequent posters who are gay, former LDS, and all three are very opinionated and outspoken. They are also still cultural Mormons, and Valentinus for example, is for all practical purposes a "dry Mormon." Maybe the other two as well. Add in the fact that gay issues are important public matters that must be discussed, and there you have it.

Awww...you're so sweet. Thanks, Stargazer! What does "dry Mormon" mean? I've never heard that before.

I know both gay and lesbian people. We are friends. We just don't discuss those issues. They know that I am not going to gay clubs or drinking with them. Still we go on hikes, concerts and bike riding together. As far as I know, there have been no directives from the GA that we are to hate or drag people behind pickups. At first, a few people thought me part of that group and admonished me not to marry. Hah, as if! It would take 10 strong men, a rope around my neck, and a sword at my throat to get me up the aisle. Then I'd put Fels Naptha in his pancakes!

Is Fels Naptha still around?? Haven't heard of it for years... my mom used to use it for the laundry...
