Here is the article, but don't just read it, scroll down, click "take action" and write your rep about it.

I don't care how safe it supposedly is, we should have 100% transparency in what is in 100% of our products. More and more I fear the FDA is run and operated by manufacturing companies :(. Let's label GM foods, and aspartame foods for what is actually in them (instead of hiding it). We should have the right to read and understand the ingredients in the products we buy.

It is well known that Aspartame is cancer causing. More and more I feel like my government is trying to kill me.

I always read a label to see if a product has aspertame... and if it does, I just don't buy it no matter how much I want it.

If it's not included in the "Ingredients" for us to see, that will really endanger people. There's too much data showing its harmful effects.

GG

edit to add... people like Mayor Bloomberg are worrying about sugary drinks, etc... yet this with aspertame is allowed to go on...

I hate the taste of Aspartame! And the last time I drank it (by accident) I puked all night. If someone puts it in my milk, I'm going to punch them in the face.

Just don't buy nonfat milk. These are apparently the things it might be put into:

Acidified milk

Cultured milk

Sweetened condensed milk

Nonfat dairy milk

Nonfat dry milk fortified with vitamins A and D

Evaporated milk

Dry cream

Heavy cream

Light cream

Sour cream, and acidified sour cream

Light whipping cream

Eggnog

Half-and-half

Yoghurt

Lowfat yoghurt

Nonfat yoghurt

If it passes, we will probably start having stuff marked "aspartame free", just like we have "MSG free" (another additive that sets off migraines).

I would think they would run the risk of losing customers that would no longer trust what is in their products if they do something like this, the taste of aspartame is very easy for me at least to tell and it ruins whatever it is put in with its aftertaste. One purchase where I discover it is in the product without being on the label and no more buying any product from that brand for me. Not going to chance wasting the money by having to throw the whole thing away.

Aspartame has been found to be safe for human consumption by more than ninety countries worldwide,[51][52] with FDA officials describing aspartame as "one of the most thoroughly tested and studied food additives the agency has ever approved" and its safety as "clear cut",[53] but has been the subject of several controversies, hoaxes[3] and health scares.[54]

I would be very surprised if this got approved for this one reason:

Since individuals with PKU must consider aspartame as an additional source of phenylalanine, foods containing aspartame sold in the United States must state "Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine" on their product labels.[30
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame

There is the potential for lawsuits if they were to do this from people with PKU.

Granted PKUers will likely be avoiding milk, etc anyway, but if they are taking it in small amounts assuming the naturally occurring level and it has been augmented artificially...big trouble.

"Diet for life" has become the standard recommended by most experts. The diet requires severely restricting or eliminating foods high in Phe, such as meat, chicken, fish, eggs, nuts, cheese, legumes, milk and other dairy products. Starchy foods, such as potatoes, bread, pasta, and corn, must be monitored.

Well, I have fibro Mialgia, diagnosed in the mid 90's. My Mother had MS. My Doc put me on steroids to confirm his diagnosis, and then told me if I took it, there would be huge consequences. So, other than once or twice I have not used it. One of the best helps for me is to avoid diet beverages. People with MS often have a huge remission if they avoid diet drinks.

For me, following D&C 89 where it comes to meat consumption seems to have helped a lot.

(NaturalNews) Scientists from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston have revealed results from a study outlining some of the effects of artificial sweeteners on the body. Conducted on a group of 3,000 women, the results indicated that those who drank two or more artificially-sweetened beverages a day doubled their risk of more-rapid-than-normal kidney function decline.

There is no link between cancer and Aspartame. That does not mean that large quantities are good for you, but that it doesn't cause cancer.

What do you mean, "no link"? As you should well know, EVERYTHING causes cancer. That's why we are all doomed.

The awful taste alone should be reason enough to say no to this.

Breathing causes cancer, as can be easily shown by the fact that 100% of cancer sufferers were breathing prior to being diagnosed. If a cancer patient stops breathing ,then it can be shown that the cancer eventually dies off. It is still puzzling as to why some cancer survivors seem to be able to continue breathing and be cancer free. Obviously more study must be done and more funding must be provided to solve this puzzle. Send all donations to the BCC foundation, care of this station.

( just a little black humor from a cancer survivor )

There is nothing dangerous or risky found with aspartame so far and I don't mind it in the food. However, I believe all food should be labeled so the consumer can more adequately make a choice such as believing all the hoaxes surrounding aspartame (or Splenda for that matter) or GM foods if they desire. This is the function of government, not to save us from ourselves, but to help us make informed choices.

I believe that the government has an affirmative to protect the unwary from the unscrupulous.

I have decided to stop breathing as there are carcinogens in the air. I will let you know how it turns out.

If you want to be perfectly healthy don't eat the food, drink the water, breath the air. ;)

Yes. If you are a rat (300 grams) and eat 4 grams of aspertame a day you may get cancer. A 150 lb human (68,000 grams) would need to eat 1.5% of his/her total body weight to eat the equivalent of what rats are fed in the lab. That is 2.25 lbs!!!!!

A diet coke has 131mg of aspertame. That means that a human would have to consume 3,500 cans of coke a day to injest aspertame at the same quantities the rats are.

If a person consumes 3,500 diet cokes in a day, I think they will likely die of something else before cancer ever enters the picture.

Grab a Diet Coke and drink up!!!
