Only a non-LDS person would think that 1) it was possible to plan on following your father into leadership positions and that 2) seminary was a part of making that happen. 1

It has only been awarded to 3,459 people since it started being given out after the civil war in the 1800s-that includes all divisions of the military.It's not given for 'killing people'. It's given for courage in the face of danger, and not lightly. 3

It is called war, one we did not start! If someone was trying to kill those under your command would you just stand by? Must be an America thing.

wolfcall Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 interesting the response. as a military man myself only 10% of the people recieving that award survived long enough to have it pinned on them. it is not about killing however if we want to gripe about that a quick fix is we can disband the military and see how long it takes until our freedoms are run down. soldiers dont do it for the pay or do it for fun we do it because someone has to defend your freedoms and the freedoms of others. its not always glamourous or enjoyable in fact at times life just downright sucks. but if you want to defend yourself against armed terrorists who think 1000 dollars an american is worth it be my guest.

In fact when I served my job was medivac...we would give our lives and aircraft if needed to never leave a man on the field of battle.

My friends in the UK, while still deploring 9/11, were surprised at how shocked we seemed to be. They have accepted the possibility of terrorism and faced terrorist attacks on different scales for years and have seen no need for the harsh internal measures we adopted to be "safe".Russia faces all kinds of issues both external and internal. Despite being in many ways a police state with military support they have a fraction of our spending.China has similar problems. France is not that far off from the UK.Why do we have to have the best? It worries me how much we seem to trust in munitions and killing technology. From what I have read in scripture God generally uses the wicked to punish the wicked. Military strength never seems to help the target of his wrath. In some ways we are lime the oldest generation of the British. Proud of our empire. I suspect the future or our empire and military prowess will look something like theirs. 2
