Lamanite Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Serious to me Tomorrow is the Primary Program. Anyone have opinions on whether I ought to or should discreetly record (with an iTouch) my daughters parts during the program?Big UP!Lamanite
DavidB Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) I tend to doubt it could be done discretely. Edited November 10, 2012 by DavidB
Calm Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Our ward records Sacrament Meeting for the shutins. My husband got me a copy of our Primary Program (haven't made it to church much since it moved to 9 AM.

But I'm sorry you can't get out to go to Church. Big UP!Lamanite
Lamanite Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 discretely. That word is subjective and relative. I know what you mean, but it's just me holding a little black rectangle up near my head. What's the harm? Even if the whole congregation did it all at once would it really chase the Spirit away?Big UP!Lamanite
Tacenda Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 If someone saw you then more people would follow suit and do the same and you won't be the only one recording. But soon enough there would be a letter read at the pulpit from the presidency that would frown on it. Just a hunch.
Calm Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) Why not ask the bishop if you can record the whole program and then make copies for anyone that wants them? If one can do it for shutins, why not for others as well? He can make an announcement so no one has to be sneaky.edit: I just realized you are talking about photographing them, not just audio...different rules. Sorry. Edited November 10, 2012 by calmoriah

Sorry.Yeah, I'm talking 1080dpi Hi Res video (i don't know what that stuff means) of my daughter saying "This year for our program..." and the other one saying "Jesus loves me ...." and the other one saying "Joseph Smith was a great example...."I want those momentsBig UP!Lamanite
Calm Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Yeah, I would have been tempted if I had seen my grandkids...Technology is great, but so many more temptations, you know.
Freedom Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 You can record it, but you can't take the file with you to outer darkness which is where you will end up. For the rest of us, we will have our own urim and thummim to play back all the memories that the policy manual forbade us from recording. Your choice. 1
Calm Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 What about recording them at home since they likely have their parts memorized. Not the same thing, of course, but possibly a workable compromise? 1
CV75 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Tomorrow is the Primary Program. Anyone have opinions on whether I ought to or should discreetly record (with an iTouch) my daughters parts during the program?I would do it only if it doing so fulfills the purpose of the Sacrament Meeting, which is a formal, priesthood-administered remembrance of Jesus with the attendant sanctifying benefits of worshipping Him in this manner (partaking of the emblems, testifying, speaking, singing, etc.). So whether one ought or should record his daughters' manner of worship during this sacred experieince is up to his own conscience since there no commandment to do it or not do it. Anyone have access to a CHI?
ksfisher Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 21.2.10 Photographs, Video Recordings, and Broadcasts in Chapels Taking photographs or making video recordings in chapels is not permitted. Meetings and other events that are held in the chapel may not be broadcast over the Internet or by any other means (see 18.3.1 for an exception). 18.3.1 allows stake conference to be broadcast to other locations in the stake if needed.
Lamanite Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 What about recording them at home since they likely have their parts memorized. Not the same thing, of course, but possibly a workable compromise? This is a reasonable suggestion. Big UP!Lamanite

So it's not a question of whether one ought or should record his daughters' manner of worship during this sacred experieince, but whether his own conscience countermands this policy.

It has some other stuff about recording (audio or video) ordinances, marriages, and maybe one other. Hmmmm. Big UP!Lamanite
Calm Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Volume 2 of the current CHI is online, see the link I included.
Kemara Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 What's the worst thing that could happen to you if you did record it?
rpn Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 But bishops can now approve live streaming of sacrament meetings for shutins (you'd have to read the latest LDSTech notes on capabilities of the lds broadband). And what kind of example do you want to set --- that a 2 second photo that will force the child to remember the event accurately or at all, when s/he might rather recall feelings or just that she loved the primary programs, is worth more than your leader's counsel? Are you wanting to teach her about unholy pride and how it often gets us into trouble (not to mention a really unholy in another way desire to record more than deserves permanent exposure in our world today)?
Lamanite Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 What's the worst thing that could happen to you if you did record it? Probably nothing. But the "right" answer is that my decision will reflect my person devotion to Jesus and my willingness to obey....blah blah blah....as reflected in my decision to record my daughters even though my motives will be absolutely pure and motivated by love.....blah blah...probably a slippery slope that will end up in pornography abuse....blah blah....anti christ....blah blah....Armageddon.....outer darkness.Big UP!Lamanite

Lamanite Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 If you don't believe that your choice reflects anything, then why the angst? Why not just do what you want to do? Sure my decision reflects something. It's just a matter of how crazy I want to be with the conclusions I draw from my choice. If I did I could infer that...*Your choice to break the speed limit means you have no respect for the law and it's just a matter of time before you use your car as a battering ram.*You tell your boss you were late because you were stuck in traffic when really you slept too long....means your going to eventually defraud the entire company of millions.I could go on and on and on and on and on....Big UP!Lamanite
CV75 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 What's the worst thing that could happen to you if you did record it? Bad things can only happen by coming up with the question and then procrastinating the day of discovering God’s will about it… so who knows?
