However not really for the younger set, under about 50. SEE I really liked this movie. It was was well acted and had a good story line.

hagoth7 Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) The Birth of a Nation. Wept. Touching. Tragic. Thought it also tragic that only 3 other people were in the theater. And that 2 of them got up and walked out just before seeing/getting the point. *Very* timely / germane content. If you care about equality, justice, compassion, *and* current events, and if you're one who happens to think that an occasional R-rated film merits an exception, consider experiencing this before it's no longer in the theaters. Words don't suffice. Edited October 9, 2016 by hagoth7
Brent Sohlden Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 God's Not Dead 2. Great film! It was a very good continuation of God's Not Dead. I went to see God's not Dead with some friends in michigan and saw God's not Dead 2 on DVD with family in Zion.
Okrahomer Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 I highly recommend The Queen of Katwe. Wonderful film about a young woman chess prodigy from the slums of Kampala, Uganda. There is so much here to admire and inspire, 1
bluebell Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Watched the new Ghostbusters. It was entertaining. The actresses playing the ghostbusters are pretty hilarious (especially the blonde!) and it's just a lot of fun. Could have been better if they could have made it more creepy and less cheesy, but still a solid movie rental.

It's playing nearby at a dollar theater that is only $2.00 bucks, I think? Maybe $3.00 on the weekends in the evening. Do you know which one I'm talking about, It's in Kaysville. Words don't suffice. Was able to see this at the Sundance Film Festival this year, with some of the key players coming on stage afterward. It won in fact! And it was like you describe. Just like in Shindler's List, there were parts that were hard to watch but needed to be seen, in fact in my TBM days, I had to get over the fact it was an R. My only problem in The Birth of a Nation, came at the end, I hated to see how Nat went about it with his uprising. Very hard to watch that part. But like Shindler's List, these chapters in our history have to be told. Edited October 16, 2016 by Tacenda

Garden Girl Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 (edited) I rented an excellent movie titled "Genius." At least it was excellent to me... Starring Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, and Laura Linney... Story about Max Perkins, editor for Schribner's Publishing, who worked with such authors as Fitzgerald, Hemingway, and the movie's main subject... Thomas Wolfe... Very Interesting look into the literary world, and Wolfe... Very good acting... I should tell you there are some brief spots of profanity when the Wolfe character is drunk... I also rented the new "Tarzan" movie... pure entertainment! GG Edited October 22, 2016 by Garden Girl
bluebell Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 We watched the new Magnificent Seven last night. It was really good. I've never seen the original so I can't compare them but the new one is entertaining.
VideoGameJunkie Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Has anyone seen Miracles from Heaven with Jennifer Garner? I want to know if it's worth picking up. I own and love Heaven is For Real so I'm wondering if this is similar.

I saw Miracles from Heaven, and it is similar to Heaven is for Real, although the child in "Miracles" does not have a near death experience. The little girl does have, however, a healing that is difficult to explain as anything other than miraculous... it is very good and faith promoting as was "Heaven." EDIT... Correction... the child DOES have a spiritual experience... GG Edited March 4, 2017 by Garden Girl

VideoGameJunkie Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) I just bought and watched Miracles from Heaven. I loved it! I especially loved the scene and music and color when it showed her experience out of her body. That scene really got to Edited October 27, 2016 by VideoGameJunkie
Ouagadougou Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 The last movies I watched are: - "A Clockwork Orange" rated R but an interesting concept and entertaining. - "Trainspoting" rated R. Very good movie in my opinion. - "The Pianist" rated R. One of my top ten favorite movies. - "City of God" rated R. An excellent movie in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend these movies to kids or to anybody under 18 years of age.
bluebell Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Watched Lights Out last night. It's a really creepy PG-13 scary movie, good for people that like the scare but don't want to deal with blood, guts, and language. Solidly entertaining but I wouldn't let any tweens or older kids who have active imaginations watch it. It could easily cause some sleepless nights.
hagoth7 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Watched this last night (Veteran's Day) in a packed theater. Desmond was a genuine hero. A true spiritual warrior/champion. And I thought I loved Adventists (and other peace publishers) before. (Consider Anti-Nephi-Lehies). A masterpiece. "WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor." Have never had a media experience approximating last night's sweep of emotion. My shriveled heart grew just a wee bit. Edited November 12, 2016 by hagoth7 3
Tacenda Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Hagoth7, I was just about to put down the movie Hacksaw Ridge, glad you posted for me, haha. I was amazed at his great feat of doing what he did. While watching I hadn't done any research beforehand and kept thinking they must be exaggerating a bit or a lot, how is it possible for one man to do this.

As a devout Adventist, I would imagine Desmond had the following kind of thoughts in mind as he went about his work: With God Through Christ And this And his thoughts likely would have included this parallel promise, had he been aware of it (and his heritage) Promise made to our fathers (in Book of Mormon) Edited November 12, 2016 by hagoth7 1
