Last Movie You Watched

Daughter and I are watching the new Superman together (got halfway, got interrupted, will resume tomorrow).  I might like it even better than the Christopher Reeve version because I generally like my camp lightly done, though the Reeve movie was a blast.  This one is a great mix of fun with a touch of seriousness.  Some really nice touches (Guy Gardner’s hair and Krypto for example).  I think it’s the third time for my daughter.

It’s the in between parts…and the anticipation of awkwardness whether it happens or not.  I am just too programmed to expect it.  I will take graphic violence over awkwardness any day, lol.

You know, it was good enough I might go read the plot on wiki….assuming it’s there.  If there is enough details so I can avoid surprises, the anticipation factor could be dulled enough.  Some of my family thinks I am insane wanting to know details of a show before it happens, but I love watching how ideas are developed and how actors and directors convey these ideas.  I would prefer knowing the plot even for the most comfortable, predictable show ever.  Just needs to be well made.

I like the female star, I think I'll give it a try.

Deep Cover.  Funniest movie I've seen in a long time.  It's on Netflix I think.

It's rated R because of the language.  There is no sex or graphic violence, but there are parts that say the F word a lot.  Normally I would never recommend a movie like that but it has been years since I've seen a funny movie with such an original script that I can't help myself.

Here's the trailer:

I will look out for this, it looks good.

I am still heavily influenced by the Christopher Reeve films. May give this one a try 👍.

I watched part of it.  It was funny and very clever.  Unfortunately also anxiety provoking, lol.  So good chance I might not finish it.  I have never been able to watch movies like Ocean’s 11 and other con/sting operations.  Stuff always goes wrong before it goes right and waiting for that to happen is too nerve wracking (I can watch murder mysteries because the killing happens first and is then solved).

I did watch The Sting when it first came out.  Family went to see it.  Never saw it again though.  Great movie if looking for a Redford classic.

I get the anxiety thing. I've gotten way more anxious about films over the past few years. My wife is really into Jack Reacher, has read and loved every single novel, hated the Tom Cruise films, loves the Amazon Prime versions. I watched the first Amazon Prime episodes, but had to ask for breaks occasionally because I was starting to get anxious. I don't seem to be able to watch films all the way through these days, unless I've seen them already.

I just recently rewatched The Bourne Legacy, which doesn't actually feature Bourne, but another character, Aaron Cross, in a different super-agent program called Outcome. The star is Jeremy Renner, and in my opinion, this film is better than every Bourne film except the first one.

I'm in the process of watching The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck as the accountant. It's very good so far, but I haven't finished it yet. Note what I said above about needing to watch things in installments! :D

I loved the Bourne Legacy. I’m still sad they didn’t continue with the new storyline.

I love the Accountant movies. First one has more story.

Soul on Fire

With all the dreck that comes out of "Hollow Wierd" (aka Hollywood) my reaction to too many movies is,"Well, there went two hours of my life I'll never get back!"

That's why seldom do I watch movies, and hardly ever in theaters when I do.  This one, however, was well worth it.

Good to know, I haven't liked much lately at the theaters when trying to find one. I did see "Downtown Abbey" and really enjoyed it, w/o even watching the first two movies. It's a sequel.

Les Miserables with Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman. Watched recently, and pleasantly impressed by the production.

I like that version, very entertaining.

We’ve been trying to watch more movies as a family so this last Sunday we watched the live action remake of How to Train your Dragon. It’s probably about a half an hour longer than it needs to be, but otherwise very entertaining and the ending is quite touching. It also has a pretty good musical score which we don’t get very often anymore.

It seems in this day and age. Movies with a musical element seem to have declined. Hopefully they will start to make a comeback.

I really hope so. I miss scores like we used to get from John Williams and James Horner. The soundtracks to Braveheart and The Last of the Mohicans are unrivaled. Movies have no heart anymore.

Also the more modern composers, such as Enio Marraconi and Vangellis . Seem almost in the past now.

My 11 and 12 year old and I watched (re-watched for me) the Maze Runner trilogy.  The books are pretty good if you like YA dystopian type stuff (they came out quite a while ago) and the movies are ok if you like teenage hero dystopian stuff.  Lots of action, some 'zombie-esque' elements, not much of a love story but more about male friendship I guess.

The worst thing about the movies are that, other than the first one, they are nothing like the books.  So if you read the books first, you will probably be annoyed by the movies because they mangle the plot.  If you watch the movies first, you'll probably find them entertaining and then also like the books if you decide to read them later (if you like that genre).

We watched Practical Magic this past weekend, and we'll do Hocus Pocus on Friday - 'tis the season. 🦇🎃

I haven't seen either, but going to try and see at least one if not both!🎃

Hocus Pocus is great, you should really try and see that.

Practical Magic…I remember that as entertaining, but don’t have much desire to see it again, but then I am not a Sandra Bullock fan (there is just something about her performances that triggers angsty feelings for me, maybe because they almost always set up very awkward situations for her).  I like both Aidan Quinn and Nicole Kidman and Stockard Channing is always fun to watch in my experience (which is probably pretty limited as I limit movies to a few genres and tend to avoid others).

I’m excited to see the sequel!
