LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks, cinepro. I figured it was mentioned somewhere, I just think the attitude of "prove it to me" on something that is (was?) seemingly common knowledge is silly. I wasn't demanding proof just asking for help, like the parable of the good Samaritan many passed there brother in need by but one humble brother stopped to help. BTW, There is no "ordination" room, but your list of rooms in the temple is incomplete and that may explain why you're not seeing where/when it happens.Well the Raliegh NC Temple only has those before mentioned rooms to perform ordinances in, there is also restrooms, a vestibule, and a waiting room but I don't think they perform any ordinances in those rooms. (At least I hope not!)Is/was there any reason to distrust the answer of several LDS posters on the board that have had so much personal experience with it?Since we are all anonymous people on a internet forum there is no way to know who is or is not a member in good standing, also we are taught to never have the "believe me cause I say so" attitude in the LDS Church.
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 It is not a decoration, but rather a part of the symbolism of an ordinance performed in the temple. I did not claim to be your temple president. When one has questions about what occurs in the temple, that is the source to whom one should turn--not a discussion board.Your continued persistence in this merely digs your hole deeper. My question arose from claims made on this board so of course it is reasonable to ask someone to support the claim made. In fact it is a requirement of one's membership to present support for one's claims made on this discussion forum. Thankfully cinepro was willing to provide a source and end this silly and pointless quagmire.
cinepro Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I am truly embarrassed that after 6 years of membership in the Church that I didn't know about this, but we all have to learn sometime!Once again thank you cinepro for the help!Don't be too embarrassed. I've been LDS all my life and I'd never heard of it either! I'm going to poll the EQ next time I teach and see how many know about this too.
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Don't be too embarrassed. I've been LDS all my life and I'd never heard of it either! Well at least I am not the only one! Once again thanks for the source!
Duncan Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Well at least I am not the only one! Once again thanks for the source! Add me to the list of never ever hearing about it and being raised LDS, but now I know!
ERMD Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Well the Raliegh NC Temple only has those before mentioned rooms to perform ordinances in, there is also restrooms, a vestibule, and a waiting room but I don't think they perform any ordinances in those rooms. bluebell Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 There are saving ordinances in our Church, baptism, confirmation, endowments and marriage all of which we do for deceased persons in the Temple. What about getting the men the Priesthood? Isn't that a saving ordinance? If it isn't do dead men get it in the next life?if they don't then why not? if they do then why do we do these other ordinances here?If you listen at the beginning of an endowment session it says that men have been ordained to the priesthood previous to their names being presented for the endowment.
ERMD Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 If you listen at the beginning of an endowment session it says that men have been ordained to the priesthood previous to their names being presented for the endowment.CFR!!!!
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 There are rooms for initiatory ordinances.I do not doubt that they have a room that they do the initiatory ordinances but there is no specific room set aside from this as far as I know in the Raleigh NC Temple on the rooms I stated. I have cleaned the temple recently so I am pretty familiar with the temple layout.

In fact it is a requirement of one's membership to present support for one's claims made on this discussion forum. so are you going to provide a source for your claim that the Bible Dictionary is a part of the KJV on that other thread where you were asked to do so (several times IIRC)?
silvermoon383 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 LDS Guy 1986, if you've taken out your own endowment already, return to the temple with an appointment to do some Initiatories. I can guarantee you that you'll experience a vicarious priesthood ordination first hand (and in the very same room I did for the 1st time.)

I can't wait to have the opportunity to do so and from the beginning I said I believed there most likely was such an ordinance. All I asked for was an official source to back up the claim cause I had never heard of this before (apparently a few other members had not either).
Duncan Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 If you listen at the beginning of an endowment session it says that men have been ordained to the priesthood previous to their names being presented for the endowment. You mean we aren't supposed to be talking about news, weather and other timely subjects??? haha! Yes, you are right!
Garden Girl Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 CFR, I have never heard of proxy ordination into the priesthood. I have just been ordained and elder myself so it probably is simple ignorance I was just wondering what you had for doctrinal evidence to support this?Hello LDS Guy...A year after my wonderful but non-LDS hubby passed away, his ordinances were performed for him, and he was ordained to the priesthood... and, I was sealed to him as his eternal companion. I will always be grateful for the dear ward brother who stood proxy for my husband, who received the priesthood and ordinances on his behalf, and particularly as we knelt at the altar in the sealing room. If he had not received ordination as elder, we could not have been sealed.GG

LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 There are rooms for initiatory ordinances.I have no doubt about this I was simply saying I haven't seen any in my local temple maybe they use another room for this purpose.
ERMD Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 The next time you go to the temple, ask to do initiatory work. You will see the room as well as the ram's horn.
mfbukowski Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks, cinepro. OK?
mfbukowski Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I can't believe how many here have not been endowed apparently or don't listen! Incredible!
Stargazer Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I can't believe how many here have not been endowed apparently or don't listen! Incredible!A man receiving the endowment for himself has no need to receive the priesthood, as it is a prerequisite for getting a temple recommend for "own endowment". Thus such a man would not experience the ordinance for his own self. during the initatory ordinances. And it is only a minority of those who do proxy work who participate in proxy initiatory work, thus they miss it entirely. This would explain how Cinepro, for instance, could be a long-time member with regular (I assume) temple attendance, and not be aware of it. I was particularly aware of it because I did the proxy work for my own father, and after this ordinance the worker asked me if I was related to the person, and when I told him he responded, "Well, he now has the priesthood!"Of course, he may not have had the priesthood because he may not have accepted the ordinances I did in the temple for him that day. Unfortunately, I did not get any confirming witness one way or another, so I presume things were still in an undecided state.
LeSellers Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 The next time you go to the temple, ask to do initiatory work. You will see the room as well as the ram's horn.I heartily endorse this recommendation because, of all of the blessings received in the Temple, by far the greatest number are bestowed in the initiatory ordinances. If you stay in the Endowment Room(s), you will forget these marvelous blessings and you will not recall some of the covenants you make in the House of the Lord. Lehi

Bluebell pointed out that it is mentioned at the beginning of the endowment that all the men have been given the priesthood....so if they've gone through the temple at all then they should know this though I can understand if it's your first time through how you might miss it and I can understand how you might miss it anyway, just that it's not because you haven't done any proxy initiatory work.
LeSellers Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I don't doubt this since I now have the source to know that this is a proxy ordinance done! You had at least two eye witnesses to the fact. I'm sorry, but that is, in and of itself, sufficient evidence to establish as fact what we were attesting to. If you felt that I, along with the other(s) who told you explicitly that this was the case, you were essentially labeling us liars. This is, I am sure, not what you thought you were saying, but the implicit charge about a fact, not an opinion, when he or they tell you explicitly what their experience has been, is that they are misrepresenting that experience: "in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established."Lehi
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 You had at least two eye witnesses to the fact.To accept an eyewitness are credible one must have knowledge of the eye witness and how they qualify as an expert on the topic, this cannot be done on the internet since there is no way to verify that the person posting is who he or she says they are. So only official sources can be accepted since there is not way to prove any eyewitness statement.Added by Edit: If any were so arrogantly proud to not understand that the anonymous nature of the internet allows no eyewitness accounts due to lack of verification of ones knowledge or lack of knowledge on a subject to be seen as credible then they need to better understand the internet. This is why the forums require all claims made to be supported by a reliable source, because your anonymous testimony has no weight behind it at all since I do not know you or have any way to verify if you are a credible expert on the matter or not. The problem wasn't with me I was following the rules of the forum and asking for an official source to be provided.
