webbles Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Today, I just learned that our stake has a "Secretary to Stake President" (that is the name of the calling per Church Tools) who is a woman. She isn't the Stake Executive Secretary (that is a man) or the Stake Clerk (also another man), nor assistants to those (also other men). I have no idea what she does and I can't find anything in the church handbook explaining this position. She is listed in the "Stake Presidency" organization in Church Tools, so she isn't in the Stake Relief Society, Stake Young Women, or Stake Primary. I found out about this calling because they released the previous woman and called a new woman. Is this a new thing? Old thing that I never new about? Unique to just my stake? 3
Tacenda Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Seems there are some changes if this is true, among other changes too, which I love about the church, yee haw! 1

You should ask around and then report back what you find. 2
JustAnAustralian Posted June 22 Posted June 22 (edited) It's not listed as a standard calling that can be entered into LCR in the Stake Presidency organisation, it's not in the "features by calling" list in LCR, and it's not directly searchable as a calling in the custom reports list. It's also not listed as a searchable calling in the Church Directory of Leadership. Would be very interested to see what is going on. Edited June 22 by JustAnAustralian 3
The Nehor Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Sounds like a custom calling, meaning it is probably only in the one stake. 4

If the stake president was older agewise I could see them calling his wife as a secretary (much like how the Patriarch's wife can be (is?) called as Assistant to the Patriarch), but as far as I'm aware, they don't like calling old stake presidents. 1

I have no idea what this secretary would do. They’re probably not attending Stake leadership meetings as except for the larger stake council meetings or those with other organizations they tend to be gender-segregated. Buildings don’t need someone to answer the phone anymore. I have no idea what this calling would even involve. 2

The stake president is in his late 40s/early 50s and the woman is definitely not his wife. I'll have to ask around to figure out what her responsibilities are. 2
gopher Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Sounds like a rogue stake if the stake president is a woman. I just read the title so maybe you explain more in your post.

He is a man. There is a "Secretary to the Stake President" calling which is a woman.
