Quoting again, I'm confused about the slip garment. Does it mean women are allowed to wear regular underwear? I sure would hope so.

Sorry, but this is exactly what I was saying makes me nuts.  So with fair warning here:

Anyone concerned with what someone is wearing or not wearing under their garments is caught in a sexually driven trap created by themselves.

You could wear regular underwear under garments if you preferred before, so I am expecting they expect you to wear them under the slip (the slip removes an additional layer and is airier, but I believe most women want additional coverage, but it can be as much or as little as they need.  It was a member unwritten rule about insisting garments be next to the skin.  That’s why I loved my matron even if she had some pretty strict rules about the care and feeding of garments, she let us know bras could be worn under garments if that was more comfortable.  She said they had to be white or nude, iirc.  I don’t have a clue it that was the actual rule or not.

I just now dawned on me how hilarious it is that members lined up for hours in multiple locations to buy.... underwear.

Yes, folks, we are weird - and we like it that way!

😆

Very weird.  People lining up to buy church approved underwear.

Well, I was going to say something else to MustardSeed, and that is many women like regular underwear for their period time. I hope I didn't offend her by what I said with wondering if it's okay for regular underwear.

I think she gets you are just thinking about the mechanics rather than judging appropriateness.

People lining up to buy covenantal clothing doesn’t sound very weird though.  It’s all in the perspective.

Lining up to buy comfortable covenantal clothing to replace uncomfortable covenantal clothing they have had to wear for years, often decades makes a lot of sense.
My guess is a strong dose of curiosity is also part of it.  :)

This was answered already....but it's another cultural policy that hasn't been a real policy for years now. There were often mixed instructions on this coming through when I first was a temple worker I saw and heard this start to shift.

I have no qualms talking about my undies to other ladies especially. I always wear undies for my period under my garments cuz anything else would be a hot mess. I usually wear my bra over my garments if I wear one. This is more for utility. It helps keep my g's in place and I buy ones that look like an undershirt to avoid another layer. Plus it reduces go often I need to wash my bra, elongating it's lifespan. I have no problem wearing it the other way though.

Many women are stuck mentally though with whatever they were instructed to do. Either outright in the temple or by others after the fact. This can lead some to have unnecessarily strong opinions about treating them more like underwear or more like an under garment. In my head it can be both based on looser but more universal and more recent instructions/policies. I use them as both depending on what's most practical that day.

As an aside. It's been a few days and I really like the new g's. I had a hot flash in the top the other day...and it was so much more bearable and shorter lived because of the materials wicking abilities. The cut leads to less figiting and fixing the garment on my usual outfits and it's made it overall more comfortable...even though I never really minded the other cuts for comfort. This one feels like a second skin. Close amd tight, but moves with me so I actually feel it less.

The only complaints I have is that the nylon can be a little bit of a static fest on the slip style  and the tops can roll up. I'm ordering a longer one just so see if that helps a little. But I'll definitely take this over my previous problems with G's.  My husband got a little sensitive of the material by the end of the day, but he's hoping a run in the wash will help that because he also strongly prefers these over his usually sleeved ones. He's completely sold on the bottoms even though it took a moment to adjust to the tighter fit.

I was reading in a comment on another site that this was years in the making and preparation. I'm grateful for it. I get that this is a sensitive topic for many who received a variety of uncomfortable messages around this and modesty for years. Including for myself. I also recognize it can be uncomfortable for other who invested and strongly believed in the policies as some variation of gospel truth or who believe in more constant standards in their interpretation of what it means to have a consistent God. But I think I'm choosing more than anything just to be grateful change came to meet the needs and comfort of members around the world more fully.

With luv

For women, there is no seam at the joint of the arm unless you get the long sleeve version, I believe.  The cap sleeve just extends a bit further to cover the shoulder, the fabric is cut to make it curve.  Example of a simple cap sleeve tshirt below.  Very simple to make (though the crossover style and some other styles are a bit more complicated).  I am pretty sure you would have to hem or put some fray prevention glue on it, which would be scratchy.

I don’t care about accommodations to style of clothing.  The design of the garment, imo, from my study is cultural and always has been outside the marks.  For me not altering is about respect for the garment.  I can’t remember if that was how it was taught to me, but it’s what I always thought.  Respect was highlighted by the matron who instructed me.  Garments were not to touch the ground.  They were not to be tossed in the laundry pile when dirty, but folded before and after washing.  I was pretty sure this last at least was her personal interpretation because I saw how my mother and father took care of theirs (I was and am obsessive about organizing things and cleaned out and organized my mother’s drawers from time to time as a gift to her as a kid, also did all the toys and the kitchen cupboards, did as much of the garage as I dare as that had Dad’s workshop in it), but between the matron’s intense concern and my mother’s love of the temple, which the garments represented to me, having respect is pretty embedded in me…though I don’t fold them as they don’t stay folded for me and if I lose my balance and step on them by accident, I may flash back to the matron, but feel no guilt….except perhaps about not doing enough of my balance exercises.  :)

Thank you.  That was very helpful.

I ordered one to try it out. Would have been nice if this style had come out when I was younger and had skinnier arms, lol. It would have been a welcome relief in Texas. However, I am looking forward to wearing sheer sleeves with no cap showing and also less material under the arms will be nice.
