I went back to the 2016 thread you linked and really enjoyed rereading the discussion there. This board used to be filled with robust discussions of deep doctrine, theology, and history by a very large group and variety of posters. I wish those days would return.

Then I don't believe it's infinite as you define it. I see no evidence for such a notion. Christ is the only begotten of his Father. Not the only begotten of every Father.

Well the number one issue is limiting truth to canon. Canon is imperfect, and much revealed truth never made it into official canon. As far as Joseph's teachings his understanding developed and changed throughout his life as more was revealed. He started as Trinitarian, later Binatarian, then Social Trinitarian (where the Church stopped). His full teachings of theosis didn't even develop until near his death. The idea that Brigham disagreed with Joseph's teachings leads to the question - from which period?

Why? If there are infinite Gods, infinite Fathers, and infinite creations, I see no reason there can't be other Saviors too.

Yep - the pattern never changes. Future Elohim male and female continuing the work of the Gods. To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. Christ does what the Father had done and shown him. And yes, Christ and his wife will one day have spirit children of their own. Probably. There is only one who walked perfectly and atoned for those on this creation. If Christ's atonement covers his wife then it only makes sense that the Father in his mortal probation could have atoned for his future eternal companion.

Actually what it implies is that the Father acted as a Savior to a previous creation and inherited his own Earth. What did Christ say? He does nothing except that which the Father had done.

D&C 130:8 The place where God resides is a great Urim and Thummim. 9 This earth, in its sanctified and immortal state, will be made like unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim to the inhabitants who dwell thereon, whereby all things pertaining to an inferior kingdom, or all kingdoms of a lower order, will be manifest to those who dwell on it; and this earth will be Christ’s. God has his Celestialized earth, Jesus will have this one. That's scripture.

BH Roberts 75% and Joseph Smith's Nauvoo theology 68%. Progressive 43% (and that seems high). No surprise there. That was fun. 🙂

144,000 isn't a limiting number or a symbolic estimate. It's the quorum number (12 Deacons, 24 Teachers, 48 Priests, 96 Elders etc). And just like with quorums exceeding that number they can go over or potentially form a second quorum. And the Office is not High Priest as in the wards. Think about the higher level of priest from the temple initiatories - hence sealed high priests, not ordained. See also Alma 13.

According to scripture the current Prophet of the Church has the right to name a successor. In my opinion the Q12 doesn't and shouldn't choose. Only the head can designate his successor. There were many ordained Apostles who were never a part of the Q12. And some were faithful members throughout their lives.

Based on ages with conservatives like Bednar and Gilbert likely leading the Church for long periods I wouldn't expect it at all. Although if Uchtdorf takes the reigns briefly after Oaks his liberal viewpoint might slip it through.

Yep - I think this creation lacks passion and power. The standardized General Conference voice. (At least it's not Primary voice). Somehow I think Joseph was a little more emotive.
