Elder Stevenson's whereabouts?

On Sunday Elder Rasband dedicated the Mendoza Argentina Temple and the church news article said "Noting that he had been assigned by President Nelson to do the dedication a week before the actual event", it was suppose to have been Elder Stevenson dedicating it https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/mendoza-cleveland-pittsburgh-kananga-temples

Last week also Elder Kearon spoke at BYU on the 17th but said that he was standing in for someone and they had a "seasoned one lined up" but Elder Kearon further said "he'll be here in a few months and he'll explain why he's not here"

and we know that it was to be Elder Stevenson

anyone know why Elder Stevenson wasn't able to speak at BYU and then go off to Argentina to dedicate the temple? Elder Kearon didn't seem upset or worried or anything

Not seeing anything, but didn’t deep dive.  My guess is he is sick enough to skip assignments, but nothing life threatening.  Maybe he tested positive for Covid, but has mild symptoms if they are not worried at all.  They may not be testing anymore (or are they?), but it is still respectful to others not to potentially expose a whole plane.

Indeed. I flew back to the states a couple of months ago and a few days after arriving I came down with Covid. Someone on that plane had it, and either didn't know, or didn't care.

Why does it matter that Elder Rasband travels to Argentina or Texas?

It doesn't, really. It's just that Elder Stevenson was scheduled and known to be attending two events, but substitutes showed up instead. So of course some are worried that he's OK, while some others speculate what's going on. Is he sick? Is he doing something interesting that suddenly popped up in secret? It's just noise. Interesting to watch, but of little importance.

The poor man just needs a break i guess. Life is so stressfull these days. Is he from from the LDS community? That can also explain why he need a break to take some breaths.

I know many people who have flown in the past few years who got sick right after flying, though if one counts the speed of infection it might be contact after landing.

He is one of the 12 apostles, so church life is a full time job for him, including flying all over.

Since we get a lot of references to the First Presidency and the 12 Apostles, you might like to check out this list of them so you won’t be confused as to why someone is mentioning them.  :) .  I am always forgetting one or two names and go here or to wiki to refresh my memory.

I'm always confused when people mention them. So your wiki can be very helpfull for me. Thank you Calm. 🩵

The above link has everyone in top management of the Church, including the General Officers that get referred to from time to time because they are over Relief Society, Young Men’s or other auxiliaries, but they change every five years or so and outside of the Church structure there are even popular speakers and writers who those of us who have been talking about religion are familiar with and so namedrop, but no one will be surprised or care if you ask “who?”.  :)

But on this moment there are 12 apostles right? I've watch your wiki again and i'm a bit distracted by the hansome men. ☺️

The Quorum is always 12 men, but it can be confusing because there are 15 apostles as the members of the First Presidency are also apostles as the Quorum is where they get the members of the First Presidency,

Sometimes there have been assistants to the First Presidency that weren’t apostles that were helping out when the prophet is chronically ill, but that hasn’t happened for quite sometime, so you have 15 names to work with.

I should know this as a member of the church. But i don't pay enough attention. Okay...15 apostles. And they are selected from the first presidency?

Okay i'm gonna look those names up on google. Because i couldn't figure it out on the wiki page.

Reverse, the 1st Presidency is usually selected from them.  The apostle who has been the apostle the longest (not the oldest apostle) has been chosen since the death of Brigham Young as the new President when the President dies.  He then chooses two more apostles to help him as counselors.  Because that would leave a Quorum of only 9 men if we had only 12 apostles and there needs to be 12, we have a total of 15.

Edited to add “usually” to be more accurate.  :)

Usually, but in the past, not always.

I'll be honest. I just flew home from Hungary with a cough. I don't know if it was covid or something else.  I'm still coughing occasionally today and chances are with what happens with  me when I get sick I will probably still be coughing for another week or two.  The vaccine has been around for some time. I wasn't going to spend a couple of unplanned weeks in Hungary feeling fine, but still coughing when the vaccine has been out and airlines are not even asking questions anymore. My husband and I did wear masks any time we weren't eating. (The only ones on the plane wearing them, but definitely not the only ones coughing.)

So yes, you could say I didn't care, but it was more of thinking through it all and it just didn't make sense.  If it had been much earlier days it would have made sense to stay there.

I wasn't trying to make you feel guilty! :)

I cancelled a trip because of Covid a couple of years ago, between lockdowns. I was mostly asymptomatic, but tested positive. But I no longer think that's entirely useful. The thing is, if I had the flu and was running a temperature, vomiting, and coughing, I'd stay home. But being asymptomatic with either flu or Covid? Nevermind, I'll fly. On my flight back to the US I didn't hear anyone coughing, or, at least, coughing that I noticed. If you're returning home from a place you can't afford to stay in for the period of your illness, then I feel you have license to board that plane.

My wife and I both caught Covid during the first lockdown, despite staying home as much as possible, masking everywhere we went, and being twice vaxxed and once boosted. Since then we've had it one more time together, and myself alone a third time. I've decided there's no real vaccination for it. I treat it like flu -- for which I don't get vaxxed either, and never catch it. I just got a notification from the NHS that it was time for both the Covid and flu re-vaccination. I'm ignoring it. One of our ward members died from Covid before the vaccination was available, though he was in his 80s and in bad health anyway.

I had a mission comp die of covid, he blew off the warnings, vaccines and thought it was a hoax. Part of me wants to go to Utah, dig him up and say 'you can come out now, everyone is laughing! it's all fun and games" but I don't think that would be possible.

It is complicated enough for a newbie without getting too much into exceptions.  I did mention assistants to the presidents.  :)

Lots of people blew off vaccination and never caught it. My stepson is one of them. He works in a hospital and lives with us. Another nurse at my wife's hospital (she was a nurse there, too) refused the vax, and never caught it either. One of the sister ordinance workers at the London temple caught it before the vaxx was available, got vaxxed, and caught it again not long thereafter. I've met others. Like I said, I was vaxxed up the wazoo and still caught it. Multiple times.

Don't blame your mission companion's failure to vaxx for his death. It's entirely possible he might have died even if he had got the vaxx. Because that has happened to people, too. Or regardless of whether one thinks it was a hoax.

If the vaxx helped some people, great. But it wasn't the panacea that national leaders promised in all sincerity. I remember the promises: "If you get vaccinated, you will not catch Covid!" Baloney Sausage.

His wife did blame his careless attitude towards his health and others for his death, can't says I blame her

be thankful you are still around to blame people for helping you to still be around
