I hope critics take notice of this.  The Church really is paying attention to misconduct of this sort, and really does take what corrective/remedial measures as are available.  This contravenes the common narrative that the Church is indifferent to, or even complicit in, such misconduct.

This won’t convince anyone. Nor should it. This is a pretty high profile case of misconduct where the church couldn’t hide it even if they wanted to. The Church knows it is under a spotlight.

That does not mean the Church consistently treats it differently when it is easier to conceal but that will be the rebuttal.

Sometimes they sneak away.

Once on my mission in Peru, my companion and I had said our prayers and gone to bed. Some time later he got up to go to the bathroom. After a while he hadn't returned and I heard voices outside. I found him on the roof flirting with the neighborhood girls. He had climbed out the bathroom window which led to some stairs that went up to the roof.

I woke up late one night to overhear my companion’s long distance call to his gf back home begging her not to marry this guy she met.

I walked out to the kitchen and found my companion talking to a 16 year old from the ward who brought him cookies. He got transferred, but came back after his mission to take her to senior prom. As far as I know they are still married so 🤷‍♂️

I had another companion who ended up going back and marrying the Ward Mission Leader’s sister. I think he chose poorly. The Ward Mission leader was more attractive.

The missionary I replaced (his mission was over and he was going home) in my last area came back a month later and proposed to a young lady in the ward.  I stopped by their home in Utah 6 months later after I got home.   I'm not sure why I shared this.  It seemed interesting when I started typing. Now, not so much.
