rodheadlee Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 So this racoon made off with a 5 gallon bucket half full of cat food. It has a screw top lid too. I'm going to search the property tomorrow, it's raining today. Has anybody else had a similar experience? 1
Tacenda Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 (edited) That's what happens when you're on land rodheadlee. 🤭 Hope it's as cute as this one! Oh, and yes my son had this happen, not the whole bucket though! Edited October 1, 2023 by Tacenda
JustAnAustralian Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Maybe it'll return with all of its friends. Be careful you don't end up making it a nightly thing like this guy https://www.youtube.com/@JamesBlackwoodRaccoonWhisperer 1

Be careful you don't end up making it a nightly thing like this guy https://www.youtube.com/@JamesBlackwoodRaccoonWhisperer I can see a problem when he gets too old to do this, if not now. Got to wonder if this is a local population explosion that started after he started supplementing their usual food supply. I wonder if his neighbours hate him because raccoons are running amuck in their yards, getting in their trash cans, eating up their gardens, attacking their pets, etc. This looks sweet, but how are they going to survive without him? Plus raccoons and rabies. (Can you tell I was scared to death as a teen by a raccoon peeking in a camping trailer window while I was asleep…thought it was a pervert to begin with. My dad had to construct a shed to keep them out of the garbage.) Edited October 1, 2023 by Calm 1
The Nehor Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I remember the scout camp out where a raccoon stole my breakfast when I walked away for a second. It wasn’t all bad. I found my plate later and it looked like he even washed it. Plus they are cute. In several languages the word for raccoon mean “washing bears” or “little washing bears”. See if you can get one to do your laundry. 1
rpn Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 (edited) My dh says put a bright light near the cat food? (His experience is that they can get at least half of the screw off lid off.) BTW, if you relocate them, but don't take them more than 10 miles away, they will return. I guess it is easy to see how people got to wearing coonskin caps.) Edited October 1, 2023 by rpn 1
rodheadlee Posted October 1, 2023 Author Posted October 1, 2023 Patty found the Lost bucket. The raccoon had stuffed it under one of the trailers here trying to get the lid off. Now we store the cat food in an outdoor closet. He or she must have been pretty strong or had help. 1

rodheadlee Posted November 2, 2023 Author Posted November 2, 2023 Now we are feeding possums, raccoons, skunks and more kittens. Older cats drop kittens off and show them the food bowls. 1

rodheadlee Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 There are three raccoons on the back porch tonight for Thanksgiving. I wish I could get a good picture. 2
