Mark, are you and yours ready for the Hurricane?

@mfbukowski,

I’ve been reading about Hilary and thinking of you, friend. I hope you weather the weather. Check in when it’s passed and let us know how you fared.

Is your church canceled?

According to the latest, it's going to be a BIG rainstorm but no longer a hurricane by the time it hits here, like 5 am Sunday. Getting cloudy, that's all so far.

Planning on going to church, no cancellations, we will see how it is in the am.

I am kind of a prep nut so I think we are ok.  Thanks for the concern!

Mark, count me in too. You are remembered. But I got the impression you were "Northern So Cal..." Up there around Magic Mountain and the Reagan Library, or maybe even...Thomas Aquinas College near Ventura?

We are weathering the weather here in KS too Miserere! 111 degrees F. Sheesh. I miss my Northwest summers. Never been to New Mexico or the temperate Southwest at all except airports and San Diego, CA, and other California spots.

Hang in there, buddy! We’ve had higher than normal temperatures that are lasting a lot longer than normal here in southern New Mexico. By now we should’ve had weeks of the late summer monsoon season, but unfortunately there’s been really no rain at all.

I am hoping that a wee bit of the leftover hurricane storm makes its way over here and gives us a little bit cooler temperatures and a touch of rain.

Summers in Kansas were awful.  Especially when 9 months pregnant.  So grateful we were gone by the next summer…actually by that summer as we left around August 14th, two weeks after the baby was popped out.

I didn’t like summers in Illinois either.  My memory isn’t as sharp on those days as I was preteen at that time, not in my 30s, but I hated the feeling of everything dripping, the walls in our basement and my skin in particular.

I miss the fireflies we had each summer in Illinois though….and chasing them in the backyard.  And the big willow tree we hid under.  No such fond memories of summer in Kansas though…save for watching the wee one do her finger dancing (she was fascinated by her fingers and would slowly, gracefully wave them in front of her face as if in studied movement, one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, wish we had smart phones back then that took pictures or we could have afforded a video camera).  Most summers we vacated the state and headed to Utah.  Dry heat is easier to deal with.

Lucky you! Give me the thunderstorm that keeps me up all night and I’ll be a happy man praising the glories of God forever!

I know, I know, He’s in the droughts, too (the Via Negativa!). Glory to our God whose face is shown in everything we encounter (but, um, a bit of rain would be nice…)

It has been hot and dry here at the 50th parallel too. Highs in the mid 90s. Mind you , it was just a few years ago when we had 2 feet of snow in late August which messed up the crops and our "summer " scout camp.

Thunder storms are a good way to start wildfires. ( maybe a not as good as alien lazar beams but hey...) 😁

Ok, a hurricane AND an earthquake on the same day???

Quake was  5.6, a pretty good shaker.

Hurricane was a flop.  It's a rainy day, no wind to speak of.

But both in one day?

You heard it right here!

🤪🥴

Probably seeing stuff south of Mark.

Mexico appears to have been hit hard so far.  Palm Springs is having record rainfall.

San Diego is out warning the homeless.

News always picks the most sensational stuff.

There ARE areas with flooding, especially east of LA in San Bernadino county. That's at least 50 miles east of me, and mountains mixed with flat desert with soil that doesn't absorb water well.  No trees or greenery to absorb water!  It's like asphalt!

So the water runs down MANY square miles of mountains into a little valley town where all the cameras are waiting for a story.  And there's always some.... uninformed...yahoo ...who wants to drive 50 mph through 3 feet of water.

No bueno, amigo! 😉

No wind, no rain, cloudy, looks like sun might break through soon

Earthquake moved my desk fan 1 inch.  Wondering why I felt chilly.

Blue sky, NO CLOUDS.

Go figure

Regarding the news, always notice if there are hills or mountains- downhill shots- that's a totally different thing than us Flatlanders weather wise.

We got actual river basins taking all that comes out of the mountains down to the ocean.

IF those rivers flood THEN there will be real problems.  Never happened yet.

Streetflooding?

Sure. But that's a lot different
