Pornography, masterbation, adultery, premarital sex, and homosexual relations are all against the law of chastity

The church seems to be moving away from being that strict in its interpretation. The current strength of youth booklet separates out sexual transgression (what the temple covenant refers to the law of chastity i.e. not having sexual relations with someone of the opposite sex you're not married to), and things that can lead to sexual transgression (passionate kissing, masturbation, lying on top of each other etc).

Regardless, there is still layers to the law of chastity. The Law of Chastity contains everything from lustful thoughts to adultery. It is only as you get too close to that adultery that you start losing temple reccomends. Whether masturbation, petting, or pornography dictates the loss of a temple reccomend is up to the bishop. Then excommunication and disfellowship begin to be weighed once you start stepping into the realm of adultery.

Wait, adultery is where it gets bad? So fornication is kind of a minor chastity sin? Excuse me, I have things I have to do.

It’s a good thing I’m not in charge of gospel doctrine books… lots of typos and incomplete thoughts

The way I understand it, breaking the law of chastity is sex outside of marriage.  Everything outside of that is a gray area.

Sorry for the delay. Sometimes I have time to post, sometimes not so much.

It's not about whether the restaurant serves alcohol. We're speaking about legal activities in the community (many states allow for recreational THC consumption) and whether there are scenarios where sensitivity might be the watchword within the context of LDS/former LDS relations.

I'd say its very much about whether a restaurant serves alcohol. Especially since that's what we are talking about. Specifically we are talking about a family that willingly goes to a place where alcohol is served and consumed in front of children. In the society we live in, drinking is acceptable to do with dinner in public as long as one doesn't become intoxicated.

With respect, your attempt to change the subject misses the mark. There are many legal activities that we don't take our children to. For example, sex is legal in all 50 states, yet we all refrain from engaging in sexual activity in front of children. For recreational marijuana use, I personally don't have any issues with it. If you do, I'd suggest you not visit with your family establishments where it is served and consumed openly.

I offered up some nuance with my own family and your initial response was a broad brushstroke of "It is not going to hurt anyone’s children to see this truth in the world". I am responding to that by giving you a similar scenario. What it your response to this?

See above. It's not similar unless you frequently take your children to a place where marijuana is served and consumed on a regular basis. Do you?
