really did intend it just as an illustration of the point I was making and not to incite another political brawl.

I am not talking about what you intended, but what was the most likely outcome of you using that as an example…pretty much what exactly happened. That you didn’t foresee that it would go there and therefore choose instead to take the time to find a different example that wouldn’t distract from your point and then were apparently frustrated by the obvious (to me at least) outcome is what surprises me and what I think you could benefit by considering it if you don’t want other threads to have similar results.

Iow, don’t use political examples unless you are okay with a thread going political. It is like being indignant that your car is rolling down the hill when you didn’t bother to put the brake on.

Your advice is good. I’ll take it to heart.

And I’ll cease adding to my dead Church leaders thread, or even looking  in on it.

I do think there is some uneven enforcement of the “no politics” rule just now as demonstrated by the reopening of this thread and the failure to control so far the predictable political bent that it has taken. And I know you’re going to ask, so I’ll go ahead and answer: Yes, I’ve reported it.

That is good.  :)

Last I heard the latest Q date for the inauguration of God-Emperor Trump was August 23rd, I believe. It was either from Q or that crazy pillow salesman who was heavily involved in planning the January 6 coup.

Some history book is going to talk about how the President was involved in a plan with a pillow salesman to topple the US government. Historians 200 years from now will be insisting that this is clearly hyperbole and is probably not accurate. If the people in that future have an archive of this board can I just say:

SkeletalBronzeAcornwoodpecker-size_restr

And they committed these crimes while often using scripture to create the narrative like, "We're righteous, the other side is wicked," and apparently with little to no self-reflection that violating the Constitution "to save it" is very wrong indeed.

I think the individual who dressed as Captain Moroni was pretty clear in seeing himself as like Moroni, participating in the righteous rescue of American government. His interpretation seemed overly binary and inconsiderate of the righteousness that also exists on the other side of his binary and the evil that is also present on his side of the binary.

I love the word binary. It’s so now.

We have no idea what his mental state is now or was at the time.

Not wanting you to go back on your decision, but perhaps you could look at my story (not political😌) in response to you on that other thread.

As one wag recently said,

I posted about this in the News section hoping the partisans wouldn't notice and ruin the thread, but no luck.  I thought it was interesting reading the FBI affidavit which gives an interesting insight into this man who claims to be a member of the church.  The FBI actually went through the trouble of explaining the Book of Mormon verses which discuss Captain Moroni and the Kingmen.  I thought it portrayed him more as a sore loser instead of an evil nazi insurgent hellbent on destroying this country.  I'm not trying to turn him into a sympathetic character, but he doesn't exactly come across as a terrifyingly violent person.  He jokes about being proud that he made it up the steep Capitol steps, protests against Taco Bell because of his weight, and asks for some of Nancy Pelosi's ice cream.

I doubt he'll see more than the 8 month jail sentence handed down yesterday to another participant.

I don’t follow conspiracy theories as avidly as you apparently do, so I might have misunderstood. But this looked like a jab at President Trump. You may correct me if I’m wrong:

The Gadianton robbers/secret combinations were just a symbol for the modern day deep state and Q, along with his presidential partner, is our modern day Captain Moroni."

I am by no means an "Avid" follower of conspiracy theories, not do I think it is apparent that I am.  It is kind of hard not to hear about Q.

That is basically the plot of the QAnon conspiracy theory laid out.  According to the theory, Q and Trump are supposed to be the heroes, saving the US from a cabal of cannibalistic pedophiles run by the liberal deep state.

That's the theory anyway...

There’s a minor problem with this conspiracy theory, as pointed out recently by one wag,

He gave more than one interview on the day, and the FBI found recordings where he was narrating his entry into the Capitol for his mother, recordings which the articles also quote. So on the contrary, we have plenty of information about his thoughts before and during his trespass of the Capitol.

He certainly seems like a sincere and  benign fellow. I doubt he'll receive any jail time at all.

Oh, there is more than one minor problem with this theory!

I don't understand though.  What does that quote have to do with QAnon and how is it a problem for the theory?

When referring to the President of the United States as "one wag", what does that mean in this context?  I honestly don't know.  Are you referring to how he is stumbling over his own words?  Because if so, wouldn't it be terribly unbecoming of you to publicly mock him for his speech disability that he has struggled with and was relentlessly bullied for in childhood?  Either way, it seems like you are making a political dig in commenting about current politics and quoting our current President, while I am only talking about conspiracy theories.

Since you brought it up, here is the context of his comment (makes sense to me).

Yes, sad that the media trumps all and people believe the information that swiftly arrives in front of their eyes. Back in the day, people would get to know others w/o the social media, meet in person, get to know the candidates and their families etc. I listened to someone discussing what's going on (podcast) and he said it started with Rush Limbaugh and tea parties and on and on. I was a faithful listener to Rush and Sean Hannity, as well as Glenn Beck back in the day, no more though. The scare tactics they put over, ugh. 🤢

I agree.  He definitely is not a threat to anybody.  As a "sore loser" however, I do think he knew exactly what he was taking part in when he joined a mob which stormed the capital to overthrow the results of the US election - which is not a trivial matter by any stretch of the imagination.  He was just happy to be a part of it all - whatever small role he played.

Here is a news report which includes clips from his video interviews, screenshots from the videos he himself took inside the Capitol--including from inside a ransacked office--and transcripts from him narrating his movements and the scenes to his mother while it happened:
