Well, I know for damn sure nobody at General Conference needs to be contacted, because he wasn't there, and none of your posts can change that fact.

You don’t know that Ken.   But you are very good at English.  Good job!

If even 1 out of every 10 die from this disease, wouldn’t you consider that a very high chance of dying from it?  The figure you give is an average.  85 years old is much lower risk then 96 years old.  His risk is going to be higher then 2 in 10.  That is over a 1 in 5 chance of dying from it.

That is why.

Thank you for your explanation.

To answer your question, no I wouldn’t characterize a one in 10 chance (or 2 in 10 chance) of anything “a very high chance.”  If 10% is a very high chance, you’d think if you increased your chances five fold your chances would be certain when in fact they’d only be 50-50.

If one thinks of a 10% chance in the the context of getting a job or getting accepted to a school, I don’t think many would characterize 10% as a very high chance.

I gleaned from your response that your characterization has more to do with the context (mortality) than with statistical probability, and I respect that.

In comparison to other things that kill people, a one in ten chance is high (except for aging as eventually that is  going to get anyone who is left) imo.

There is no way I would play Russian roulette with one bullet for ten slots no matter what was offered me.

I would do it for exaltation. Then ask them to fill some more chambers. :)

I'll be glad to eat all of the crow you think I should eat once I read a headline that says, "Other Attendees Infected by Elder Gong at Conference."  But you have to provide the mustard, catsup, salt, and pepper. <_<

I'd play Russian Roulette.  Only I'd insist that whoever gave me the damn gun eliminate the suspense and put a bullet in all the chambers! <_<

P.S.:  In fact, just give me the damn virus and get it over with.  I'm not tightly-wedded to the prospect of a long life, I'm definitely not interested in 30-40 more years of this, and I'm high-risk, so ..

The overall odds are higher because a number of rounds go off and cause all kinds of life-changing damage.

Like in war, lots of focus on the corpses but not so much on the profoundly wounded.

Eating smart animals is super creepy. Maybe eat one that's too dumb to wear a mask properly.

In a couple of years, I might do it if they would heal my daughter since I will be sticking around mainly for her unless they cure me.

Yeah, I guess I have to stay or no one would feed my sugar gliders. Yes, I know that is nowhere near your obligation. :(

I figure there's a finite number of calamities. Thank you for hogging the plate so more of us get a pass.

It's a well-known expression.  I'm sorry you haven't heard it before now, apparently.  The only thing I can say is that the Internet is your friend. <_<
