Temple Dedications Question-seating

Does anyone know who actually gets to sit in the Temple when it is dedicated? Obviously the Brethren and wives, Temple Presidency and wives but is anyone else allowed? The regular members i'm assuming sit in the buildings and watch via broadcast

As I recall, there is some discretion given to local leaders in allocating tickets for attendance inside the structure. Some might be issued to recent converts or recently activated members, for example. 
 

Beyond that, it is pretty much a given that local leaders and their families will be seated therein. Space permitting, of course.

Anyone attending a temple dedication must have a temple recommend, therefore whereever one is during it,  is considered being inside the temple. But I know that's not what you meant.

Before the Covid-19 I believe members with a temple recommend can attended, providing there is space. I remember attending the Bountiful Utah temple dedication inside of the temple.

We sat in the Cardston Temple when it was rededicated.  The room was iirc one of the coat ‘closets’ off of the foyer, but I may be misremembering and it was meant as a small.sitting room. There were maybe 16 or 20 seats there. They were pretty much putting chairs and screens everywhere there was space for them. 
 

Iirc they handed out so many tickets per ward, but it may have been due to my husband being on the high council at the time. I will ask him later to see if he remembers.

Not just any recommend holder can be seated inside the temple. Seats therein are reserved, and passes are issued by leaders. 
 

And way back when the Bountiful Temple was dedicated, as I recall, there were no transmissions to remote locations. They held as many separate dedicatory sessions inside the temple as were needed to reasonably accommodate the number who wanted to attend. It was common back then to extend a temple dedication over three days to fit in all the separate sessions.  I might be misremembering that, but I don’t think remote, overflow locations came about until the dedication of the Mount Timpanogas temple, sometime after Bountiful.

Did they have remote overflow locations for the Cardston rededication?

I am pretty certain they did. I know the stake center across the parking lot was also used.

yes or wherever the dedication will be, the instruction room or Celestial Room. In our Temple they only have two rooms, the instruction room and the Celestial Room. How many can safely fit in both rooms? 50? I am not sure but who would get a seat in those room(s)

I went to it as well, I recall being in some overflow room in the Temple watching it in on the screen. 2 members of our ward got to meet Pres. Monson and Hinckley, I guess they were coming out of somewhere and these two met them!

The dedicatory session always emanates from the celestial room. I’ve never known it to be otherwise.

For the Provo temple dedication when I was in the LTM on my mission, all the missionaries gathered in a large BYU auditorium and participated.

I did not know that! makes sense though! do you they put chairs in there or I can't imagine they have people sitting in the floor or the couches, seats. etc. In case you're wondering our Temple is set to be dedicated Nov. 8 and there is a facebook group for it and a discussion is ensuing as to who is sitting where and my eyes can't roll anymore with the pettiness

They bring in chairs to accommodate a congregation seated in the celestial room. Others will be seated elsewhere in the temple with chairs set up as needed.

If they only held one session, we were in the temple at the same time, but it was likely multiple sessions.  All .I remember was it was in the afternoon.

They customarily hold at least three sessions, all on Sunday. In earlier times they would often have sessions on some of the following weekdays as well. I don’t think they do that anymore.

My Mum hauled me and my two sisters and a friend of ours out there, I remember the trip and the AWESOME dairy queen and billeting but I don't recall how we got tickets. My Mom was and kind of still is upset that we were in some room and watched in on a screen, she was expecting to see the Authorities in person

When David O. McKay dedicated the Oakland Temple back in Nov 1964, many of us watched it on CCTV in the next door stake center.  We all had tickets given out by our bishop, but no temple recommend was required.  Is that policy still followed?

Back when the Salt Lake Temple (and Oakland) was dedicated members were given tickets to attend, but in our time the member needs to have a current Temple recommend to  attend the dedication services.

Does that include special use recommends issued to youth?

In 1956 (I think that's the right date) I and my family attended the dedication of the Los Angeles temple... we were in a large meeting room in the temple... there didn't appear to be a limit as to who could attend, but we did need tickets/recommends... A few years ago we went to our stake center that was temporarily dedicated as a viewing site for one of the temple dedications... we had to hold a valid temple recommend and have a ticket.  Two hours before the dedication, the stake center was closed and only those with recommends/tickets were allowed to enter 1/2 hour just before the actual dedication.  (Monmouth Oregon Stake).
