Those receiving their own endowments have also told us they really appreciate having multiple modes of accessing the language of the ordinance. Edited November 5, 2019 by Hamba Tuhan 1

The captions therefore continue to that point as well. Quote Would you or a sister matron be able to accomodate that request if it wasn't asked for until at the veil? No. Language cards have to be checked out from the office ahead of time. That means you or your wife needs to make the need known before the session starts. This is easy, though; just tell someone. You could then verify that the request has got through with the sister who checks ordinance cards at the door to the ordinance room. Edited November 5, 2019 by Hamba Tuhan

Hamba Tuhan Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Just now, Ahab said: Sisters who work in the temple are called matrons, at least sometimes. Or at least that is what I have heard. The matron is the female equivalent of the temple president. She presides over all female ordinance workers and has two assistant matrons, exactly parallel to the counsellors in the temple presidency. They oversee all ordinances performed by sisters. By default, they are the wives of the respective temple presidency members. So there are only three matrons in each temple, and at any given point in time, usually only one or two will be present. 4

Okay, we usually do but this last time it we didn't remember to ask until we got in there.

Getting a card during the session is no big deal, communicating the need could be done to any worker on the session. It is best before the session though obviously. We do not have "a sister who checks ordinance cards at the door to the ordinance room". I am not even sure how that could be done, it seems clear that depends on temple architecture. When one walks through multiple rooms, there are multiple "ordinance rooms", On the other hand, it should be obvious who doesn't speak the dominant language of the temple, and would therefore need that part of the ordinance in another language, if they request headphone translation. If one didn't request headphones, no cards should be needed! Sometimes patrons want to practice another language even though they speak the dominant language. That is frowned upon, and unnecessary. The temple doesn't exist as a language training facility. If a card is needed, they are easily obtained and efficiently handled according to instructions, if one discovers a need during a session, it should be easily and efficiently handled

They provided a card for her in the past but now a matron repeats everything for her so she can read her lips. My wife can't see the person behind the veil so she needs to see someone say something if she can't see it in writing. A headset would not help my wife. She has a cochlear implant in one ear and a hearing aid in the other that gives her about 10% of normal hearing in that ear, and a headset doesn't do anything to help her. At movies she uses the closed captioning device that sits in a cup holder which displays the text for her to read. I apologize, I didn't realize she was hearing impaired There should not have been a problem with getting a card, worst case she might have had to wait a minute or two to finish the ordinance

I'm not sure how this would work, though I'm happy for you to explain it to me. In the middle of an endowment session, a patron tells the sister follower that she (the sister) will need a language card. Then what does the follower do with that piece of information that results in there being a language card? Unless you mean waiting till the coordinator enters the room at the end of the session, informing her, and then waiting for her to go check out the language card and bring it back? In our temple, that would take at least ten minutes and would result in holding up the whole process, not just the one patron, because the coordinator also serves as well. Quote We do not have "a sister who checks ordinance cards at the door to the ordinance room". Literally every temple I've ever been in has a brother and a sister at the door of the (first) ordinance room checking for check marks on each card to make sure that previous ordinances have all been completed. I feel certain you have these too. There's a training video on it. 2

One of the sister followers leaves the session at an opportune time, and tells a coordinator or any worker outside that a card will be needed, same as if a piece of ceremonial clothing is needed. 2. Semantic confusion. I thought your term "ordinance card" meant a sacred materials card. We call the slip of paper checked at the door with the names on it a "name slip." I guess you call both of them " cards." Sacred materials cards are large and laminated.

I suppose the easiest way to appease my curiousity is for me and my wife to just go back to the temple again so I can see when the film with closed captioning ends and when the ordinances change from telestial to terrestrial and then see if the lighting changes that time.

The recording ends with an invitation to come forward and complete the ordinance, at at that point a coordinator usually comes forward and gives instructions on how people will come up to finish the ordinance personally, or simply motions people to come up. I know because I've had that calling. I'm sure @Hamba Tuhan has too. If the coordinator misses that cue, it can become very confusing to the patrons. But definitely go back to the temple often. It is wonderful when you have memorized those ordinances, and something you can re-experience in your mind anytime you want to. Edited November 5, 2019 by mfbukowski 1

And here is the problem. 'One of the sister followers' assumes that there are at least two. Usually, we have only one. And we don't just have coordinators or other workers loitering in the corridor. If it's not close to the start of the next session, we wouldn't even have a worker in the change room. She might have to go all the way to the matron's office at the front of the temple to let someone know. We keep our spare ceremonial clothing directly outside the ordinance room for this very reason. 1
