poptart Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Starting to realize, i'm one of the few people i know IRL who doesn't watch "Adult" tv much, unless it's something educational it's usually cartoons. Anyone else here like that?
Traela Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 I absolutely love the new version of Voltron. Trollhunters is also excellent.

Calm Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) Got to catch up on that. I watch the Justice League movies as well as have nostalgia moments for the older Justice League, The Batman, Young Justice, Teen Titans. Marvel animated aren't generally as well done, imo, as DC. Last nonDC/Marvel cartoon outside of Voltron was probably Invader Zim. Loved the original Reboot. Tried Steven Universe and Adventuretime for my daughter. Just never caught me like Zim did. Should mention I watch tons of Anime. Can't be too depressing, Full Metal Alchemist...really liked it except for the times I hated it, so had to stop watching it. I like the humorous fantasy stuff the best, like The Devil is a Parttimer. Edited July 25, 2018 by Calm

About up to the part where God gets tired of Israels nonsense again and lets the Babylonians sack Israel. Kinda neat looking at all these people in plate armor, late middle ages fortresses/Milanese fortresses and the standard of St. George here and there. 1
jkwilliams Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 My youngest son, who is 19, loves anime, and I've watched some of it with him. A few weeks ago, my middle son was visiting from Provo, and when I came home, the two of them were watching SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Nehor Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 I watch Ninjago while watching my nieces and nephew. Does that count? 1

Funny, Miyazaki made that pretty much for a Japanese audience. Fun fact not too many people out here know, supposedly Spirited away was based off an old Chinese folk tale of a girl being spirited away, she returns and no one remembers her. There was a lot that never translated correctly into English.

One of the challenges of producing an English language version was making the characters' mouths look coordinated with the English dialog, and they wrote the dialog with that in mind. There were a number of additional dialog elements added to the English version that were not in the original Japanese, like when Chihiro sees the bathhouse for the first time, and you can hear her say "A bathhouse?" or something like that. It's not in the Japanese script, but because Westerners wouldn't recognize the building or the symbol on it for what the place was, they had to do something to let the viewers know. There's a few other such things, but not very many. Have you seen Porco Rosso?

Was from my old Japanese teacher, she lived in Japan for decades, married a Zainichi (Japanese born Korean) and went to school over there. On Spirited away, even the title didn't quite translate right. The Japanese title was "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" Literally means Sen and Chihiro's abduction by the gods, or something to that affect. Remember the part when Chihiro had her name changed to Sen? That's kinda where it started, also how through the movie they discuss how thats people get stuck there, they forget who they are. I still watch my share of Japanese TV and movies. Once nice thing about Japan, like most asian countries they've preserved their culture and history a lot better than much of the west, the learning that Buddhism and Confucianism brought helped with that. Yep, seen Porco Rosso. 1
Josh516 Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Cartoons are usually concerning to me in regards the impact they have on rising generations. Of course, each cartoon has its own feel, but the ones that I feel are real threats to society are Sponge Bob, Adventure Land, and just about all new cartoon movies (as opposed to T.V shows). What''s mainly concerning to me is having my children grow up watching interactions of immaturity and baby talk. If my kids are going to watch a cartoon, I want it to exemplify what they should be like. For example, I want my son watching cartoons that have a strong male lead that embodies qualities of masculinity...not immaturity and/or femininity. If I had a daughter, it would be the same, but for femininity instead. In regards to the current cartoons, I can't help but be appalled at the sexual music, sexual scenes, hidden sexual references, child romance, and sexual humor. I'm stunned by it; absolutely stunned! I do have some cartoons I think are worth watching though. You can't go wrong with the Lion King lol

I do have some cartoons I think are worth watching though. You can't go wrong with the Lion King lol You know, I agree yet disagree with statements like that. Not a fan of American degeneracy, makes me sick. Still, until society decides to stop allowing it, that's what we're going to get like it or not. Mom had a great solution, don't expect society to do your job as a parent. You're the Father, you decide what your children watch, that simple. Mom took me to museums, read to me at night (same with my brothers) and did not let garbage enter our young minds. As an adult, that habit is still with me. I look at most American video games and just cry, the liberal nonsense has affected that as well, hence why the few games I do play tend to come from Japan or Europe. That being said, I do something that totally eliminates that problem alltogether, I read. I don't know you, if this doesn't apply to you sorry my bad, but from my experience it's the hallmark of many religious American parents that they expect society to do their job and control whats out there instead of doing their jobs as parents. In Tacoma I had friends with kids and they would treat public school as a glorified baby sitter and screech on facebook when something they didn't like happened. The likes of me are proof that's a bad idea, while we dislike whats happening we won't raise a finger. Esp. in my case mom was the only one who cared, my father was a mean violent psychopath who tried to murder her and as a poor kid I was disposable. Having survived to adulthood I have the same attitude towards American society, I don't really care. My solution to the problem? Let those who have something to lose do something about it, they chose to have kids in this degenerate age, sink or swim. Going to guess maybe you're a decient member of the church? Here's an idea, Robin hood, the Sword in the Stone and Black cauldron. The first 2 would be something i'd deffinetly show sons if I had them, traditional male roles at their best and I'd be conforming with my own values of taking charge as a parent.
