Bill “Papa” Lee Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) For decades I have rescued Scriptures from the Church library, because if anyone does not want them apparently they are burned or thrown away. Is this true, because it is my fear? As a result, I have sooooooooo many copies. For the ones with leather, or pretend leather, I have had them rebound. It takes a lot of space and money. I know the Word of God is supposed to be written on our hearts or souls. What is Church policy, and should I stop doing this? Edited May 23, 2018 by Bill “Papa” Lee

rpn Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 You could have been a Muslim --- they respect their scriptures as you describe. I don't equate the book, with scriptures. And I don't think burning books changes the words in them. If you want to give them away, more power to you. But I don't think that the Lord expects anyone to treat scriptures physically any different from any other book.

The brethren are inspired by God, and therefore God wishes these old scriptures to be burned or thrown away. You are being very disloyal by questioning the brethren.

Calm Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Worn out scriptures, like hymnbooks and everything else in the ward library, that are beyond repair with booktape are discarded (they can be put out on a table in the foyer to see if anyone wants them for free or if in not too bad of shape donated...but chances are if in bad shape, they will just be thrown away at the charity), meaning thrown away. I have never heard of burning them. It would be difficult to do so, pages would have to be torn out. While we greatly respect the words inside, which can be shown by respectful treatment of the book itself, in the end it is just paper and ink. strappinglad Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Step one : get a large clay jar. Step two: place old scriptures in jar. Step three: place jar well back into a dry cave. Step four: seal lid of jar really well. Step five: place a few small round stones near the cave entrance. Step six: wait a couple of thousand years. Maidservant Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I just did a huge burning a few months ago of all the old scriptures (that were falling apart) that we had accumulated over the years on my bookshelf.
