Maybe some so-called pagan beliefs have something in common with Mormon beliefs. Nobody will agree with this theory and will probably cite scripture to refute, but I'm convinced we only understand about 1% of what really goes on out there..... I have often wondered about this..those times where you think..I have done this before....maybe I just can't get it right..

Only a cruel God would want me to do this more then once. Plus if the veil comes back again and you forget your previous life why would you do any better next time?

I'm sorry if you felt that way, but I believe I made some reasonable inferences based upon what you said, and you never did take back your post, or claim to believe what I inferred you didn't. You just saw what you thought was a weak spot to launch a counter. Ok, I accept that your beliefs are not set. I was not trying to be coy nor offensive. May I suggest you consider the parable of the sower? I believe it mirrors the 3 main kingdoms outlined by D&C quite well. I believe it even has a reference to the 3 degrees of glory within the celestial kingdom - those who heard the word and did it: Matthew 13:23 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that aheareth the word, and bunderstandeth it; which also beareth cfruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. I am not going to try to talk you in to returning to the LDS Church Teancum, but are you willing to discuss some scripture? We can just stick with the Bible if you like. Do you believe any Bible prophecy has come true? what if a lot of biblical prophecy has come true? Would that tend to sway your belief that there is an Almighty Author behind it? 1: I still attend the LDS Church and still participate. I hold a temple recommend though I am surprised my prior bishop and SP gave me one. It is up for renewal soon. We will see how the new bishop and SP view my heretical ideas. 2: After it became pretty clear to me the LDS church is not what it claims I decided to drill into Christianity and the Bible with the same skeptical scrutiny. Alas these two don't fair well at all. 3: I do not know what would sway me to believe there is an "Almighty Author" behind the Bible or any other so called scripture. It would be nice is this author would directly talk to us all rather than a very select number of self proclaimed prophets or oracles. But I still pray and hope if this author exists I can get a substantive answer.

They are just like you, but unlike you, they know all the answers are in your heart not out there somewhere to be found where you are looking. Then follow your heart and go in peace. It's really that simple. We all need to be our own prophets or at least confirm what they say. The kingdom of God is within. Even the atheist Rorty knows that Quote Truth cannot be out there- cannot exist independently of the human mind- because sentences cannot so exist, or be out there. The world is out there, but descriptions of the world are not. Only descriptions of the world can be true or false. The world on its own- unaided by the describing activities of human beings- cannot." Edited June 12, 2017 by mfbukowski

Interesting links. Maybe Brigham Young did say it. Or maybe it's one of those faith promoting rumors. Actually, I don't doubt that it does surpass all understanding. Eternal life must be full of spectacular seasons or which earth life is one. Let's put it this way, earth life feels very good to me so far. I'll stick around. Looking at the work that is left to do, who can think about leaving for a good many years. Plus, life is a joy in all it's many aspects: the art that masquerades as trees, flowers, sky and birds; the miraculous air traffic system as the bees and the wasps go about their assigned duties; the operations that shed light on what the Savior was willing to suffer for us; how the meaning of scriptures, faith and prayer deepens with the loss of a beloved parent or struggling child. It is all so good, and a powerful testimony that all things truly do "work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 I wouldn't want to miss any of this. Edited June 13, 2017 by Meerkat 1

Ok you probably guessed that I jumped the gun, and concluded that you had gone inactive, so I apologize. I went through a long period of inactivity myself. I wasn't raised in the Church, but I do concede that the whitewashed presentation I was given when I converted felt a little engineered later. That wasn't really my reason for going inactive though. Quote 2: After it became pretty clear to me the LDS church is not what it claims I decided to drill into Christianity and the Bible with the same skeptical scrutiny. Alas these two don't fair well at all. I have approached truth with an open mind so I have read both LDS stuff and anti-stuff. I can see how some causes people to struggle. I read Isaac Asimov's Guide to the Bible when I was in college. Stuff like that makes one realize that the Bible is not some perfect word for word dictation from God. However, I believe it is pretty dang accurate for something so old and having passed through so many hands. I have also learned to accept what the scholars say about the Bible with a healthy dose of skepticism. Experts on the Bible obviously disagree, and I often disagree with them. I agree that Christian history doesn't hold up to close scrutiny very well. One quickly sees that men began to go astray fairly quickly. I believe under the official state Church of the Roman Empire Christianity became quickly corrupted. Let me know what your major issues with the Bible are if you want. Quote 3: I do not know what would sway me to believe there is an "Almighty Author" behind the Bible or any other so called scripture. It would be nice is this author would directly talk to us all rather than a very select number of self proclaimed prophets or oracles. But I still pray and hope if this author exists I can get a substantive answer. I have prayed sometimes for years on particular issues - like the atonement. I think God wanted to give me life answers rather than a spoon-fed spoken answer. But, I have also received answers more directly. It has been quite a journey. Now, I see so much prophecy of the Bible fulfilled that it is impossible for me to doubt the existence of God or the truthfulness of the restored gospel. That doesn't mean I accept everything the Church leaders have said - even Joseph Smith, but I know there is no other Church for me. God resides in this Church - in the faithful members - watching over them. I am in it for the duration of my stay here on earth - I am not always happy about things the way they are, but I accept that God uses us to change those things which need changing.
