No hymn lyrics brodcasted for conference

Did you notice that also? When we stood to sing the half-time hymn in priesthood session there were no lyrics showing up on the screen like they normally do.

According to United Latter-day Saints:
"Many members of the church noticed a change in the broadcast this past general conference weekend: there were no hymn lyrics written on screen during the congregational hymns.
According to lds.org, the change was deliberate:
We are no longer broadcasting the lyrics to the congregational hymn.
Why, you ask?
All the world receives the same video feed. We then add over 90 live languages to that video. In a global church, it no longer makes sense to have everyone view the English lyrics on their screen."

I was disappointed.  Is this evidence of apostasy, or is it a method adopted by the Brethren to get members to memorize the words to each hymn?  Or is it a prompting to avail oneself of a digital device with the words easily accessible?

Hymn books aren't that expensive and probably are already present in a lot of homes.  Digital devices as common. Those who watch it at their local centers will have their own hymn books available.  In the Conference Center though, it seems they should have some up on the screen there given the majority speak English if they don't have hymnbooks available.

Not too nice for those who rely on CC's .

Why wouldn't CC be up anyway, just as it is for speakers?

I wouldn't have a clue...

We have 4 deaf members in our ward and from what I saw they had a person in the corner of the screen doing ASL, the members had their own TV off to the side of the chapel

So what you are saying is it was up for those who use it so there would be no issue for CC users as far as you know?

Closed captioning is not the same a putting the English words to the hymns on the screen.  The church is saying that since the conference is broadcast to so many different places in so many different languages that is doesn't make sense to put the English words on the screen.  This does not change the fact that closed captioning is still available to those who choose to turn it on.
