Elder Randy Funk of the Seventy

  • Conversion story of Indonesian couple; Brother later became Branch President, Patriarch

    • “Ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those who keep the commandments of God”

  • Sheepfold: Sheep know shepherd’s voice and enter the fold for protection: Sheeps’ safety depend on their willingness to hear shepherd’s voice and to enter into the fold

  • Christ is always the Good Shepherd: “I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands”

  • The word of God, the Doctrine of Christ, brings us into the fold:

    • Be redeemed of God

    • Be numbered with First Resurrection

    • Have eternal life

    • Companionship of Holy Ghost

  • Man after cancer diagnosis: “We choose faith”

  • We must, and can, choose faith, and choose to follow the Prophet

  • Grandfather responsible for bringing the sheep to the Salt Lake Valley. The journey was slow, but he—and the sheep—made it.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Twelve

  • The widow and her two mites caught the Savior’s attention: “This poor widow hath cast more in than all they who have cast into the treasury”

  • The Savior doesn’t measure things the way we do: It is not measured by the effect it has on the recipient, but on the giver

  • “Come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel”: We must offer our whole souls as an offering unto Him

  • Living the Gospel is like riding a bike: The more you do it, the less you have to worry about keeping your balance

  • Focus on your destination

  • He didn’t mention this, but as he talked about finding balance in life and in living the Gospel, I thought of then-Elder Oaks’ “Good, Better, Best”

  • Discipleship can be compared to flying an airplane

    • Giant airliners can fly only when sufficient air is moving over the wings: Forward thrust is required

  • If we want the Savior to lift us, our commitment to His Gospel cannot be casual: Our offering may be small, but it must come from our heart and soul

    • Christ is not a rest stop, a scenic byway, or a major landmark: He is the way, the truth, and the life

    • “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you”

    • We covenant to obey the laws of sacrifice and consecration: They are similar but not identical. Sacrifice entails giving up one thing for something better; consecration entails giving everything to Him: Our sacrifices are not consumed upon the altar, but are dedicated to Him. Few of us will be called upon to sacrifice our lives for the Savior, but we are called upon to consecrate our lives to him.

    • Meiner Lieber Bruder didn’t mention this, but I thought of a sign I saw in a Seminary building once: “The day obedience becomes a quest and not an irritation is the day we gain power.”

    • “Let us not be weary in welldoing, for we are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great”

President Russell M. Nelson

  • Has the Spirit spoken to you directly about the things that You should do?

  • Whatever is outside of our control, still, we can control how we spend our time each day

  • What do you need to do Now?

  • We must “conquer the enemy of all righteousness”

  • Do those things that will increase our positive spiritual momentum

  • Counter worldly ways by focusing on the blessings of the Temples

    • 17 New Temples Announced

This brings Pres Nelson's temple announcements to 100.  Including, perhaps, one in my stake. We'll know location in 18 months or so.

Cool! B:) :good:  (And we thought President Hinckley had picked up the pace with Temple building!  Compared to his predecessors, he did, but President Nelson is President Hinckley on steroids! :D )  Okay ... bad metaphor ... but still! ... ;)

Here are the Deseret News' summaries of addresses from General Conference.  The News' reporter probably did a better job than I did summarizing the addresses.  What was your favorite?  What struck you about Conference?  Why?  (Oops!  Forgot the link!  Sorry!)

Looking like no temple in my stake.  Checking that landholdings[1] map and the most realistic build sites seem to be about 3 counties away.  The Church owns tons of land there; closer to me it's all small parcels.  Also, that area seems better situated to serve the most population.

[1] dang. just now saw y'all also found the map.
