What is good for the little people should also be good for the "beautiful" people.

The reason is because they put the character of one man above the condition of a whole nation.  Your Book of Mormon fantasy is of course, a non sequitur.  With the allegations against Trump being dropped, what are we down to?  Cussing?  And that compares to Gadianton Robbers when Trump promises conservative judges? Give me a break!

No, actually we are left with racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and stupid impractical plans like rounding up millions for deportation and building walls.

I have noticed that you think saying 'non sequiter' is somehow a game-winning rebuttal. It is not.

Trump crossed my personal red-line when he advocated a policy of torture and the assassination of family member's of suspected terrorists.

I have family members who are survivors of torture. It's one thing when torture occurs by governmental entities against current policy, and people are scandalized when it comes up and there are efforts of reform. It's another when you make it a cornerstone of your platform. I don't quite understand how you can stand on your moral high ground and be okay with a such a policy.

This is also disgusting. Killing the families of enemies is a war crime. It is the kind of thing brutal dictators do in order to deal with uprisings. It is rightly condemned.

Yeah, and torture has proven useless in terms of information gained in the war on terror so far. We hold on to it because people watch too much 24 and think that waterboarding will let Jack Bauer find the nuke before the terrorists wipe out the city.

He'd have to be an idiot with no political instincts at all to ignite a partisan war by arresting a presidential candidate on charges that multiple federal agencies and bipartisan commissions have refused to prosecute for.

So yes, I think Donald might do that. I also worry the powers of the Presidency will be turned on the women who accused him of sexual assault, all media outlets that Trump imagines conspired against him, and possibly the Democratic Party and even Republicans that did not give their full support to Donald. I hope this scenario does not happen. :(

At least in the McCarthy era the powers of the government were pointed at alleged enemies of the state. Though horrifying I find that preferable to having it aimed at personal enemies.

I can't believe we are about to do this. Neither can my friends overseas who are waking up to this. I guess we deserve it.

I have Mosiah 29:27 going through my mind, I have nothing but love for all of my American friends, I just hope the best for them and everything will be fine but an perverted egomaniac getting more power, I dunno. They kicked out Chaplin! or he left but WHY?!

It seems to me that Utah stabbed the Church in the back by voting for Trump, all that talk about the FSOY and morality and standards. Not all of Utah is LDS but what the heck??? What should we believe now? The Church endorses morality but  somebody voted for Trump

Yeah, this is one of those rare times where I feel a sense of shame at being LDS. I was naive and actually believed McMullin stood a good chance of taking Utah.

Oh well, we have endured bad times and bad presidents before. We can do it again.

On a selfish note, I probably should have sold my investment portfolio a week ago. It is going to take a nose dive.

On a lighter note the website 'Citizenship and Immigration Canada' where you can apply to move to or get citizenship in Canada has gone down due to the huge volume of people going to the site.

No, both my sisters are married. I would not leave in any case. I love my country. I am just not particularly proud of it right now.

Utah has disliked/hated Clinton for a lot longer than they disliked/hated Trump.  And there was a ton of fearmongering 'Clinton will win if you don't vote for Trump'.  Bottomline from what I saw they voted for the person they believed would do the least damage.

Someone is setting off firecrackers.  Must be official now.

It is pretty much over. Clinton is declining to give a concession speech until tomorrow, probably to make sure there is nothing questionable but odds are against that. I expect a normal concession speech tomorrow.

I don't really see how he could be successful at doing that for very long.  He might be able to alter those around him, but the bureaucrats will be the same that are there already with no reaon to be loyal to him.  The White House will be a sieve.  Impreachment is a valid threat, imo.  He must be aware there are lines given he has had to work with unions, etc. to get his buildings done, etc. that there are laws to protect people and he can still run afoul of them.

And so many people out there just waiting for him to cross the line.  I bet this will be a recordbreaking presidency for scrutiny.

I still half-expect the Republican party to fracture as they try to rein him in.

Yep. It is.

Excuse me as my heart dies a little for my nation. My brown-kin. Myself. My sense of security. etc.

My daughter is having an anxiety attack.  Had to make waffles for comfort food.  Spent time explaining to my sister why Utah ended up voting for him, she is completely dumbfounded and is wondering what in the world she is going to tell her grade five class (she lives in Colorado).

Otoh, if Clinton had won, I would have been dealing with my husband (who as a business prof sees more ultimate harm in Clinton messing with the economy, I don't think he takes Trump seriously as he is disgusted by the man).

I see it as with either as the winner, the majority of the nation is going to be wondering why they didn't vote for the other one at the end of four years.

I hope the next four years go by fast while Trump is too busy getting his hair just so to notice.

I wouldn't mind it going down in flames if it meant something better...is there anyone with decency that could emerge a leader?

No one took my advice and voted for me.

My biggest fears stem not just from President Trump, but also from the fact that a political party that appears to have no ability for long-term planning now completely control 2 of the 3 branches of government, and a strong possibility of controlling the 3rd within the next few years.  This party is so short sighted that the facts about what their policies have done to the planet go unheeded, that the economy will continue to be dominated by short-term profits that full recovery will be impossible, and that the ability to work together as a community on every level (local, state, federal, and international) will be severely compromised.

Probably worst of all, sometime in the future I will have to try to explain to children (my own or others) how such a man became president of a country that was founded on the ideals of freedom, equality, and respect.

Oh please, it was under Obama that this has already happened. Lighting the White House with the rainbow flag celebrating sexual deviancy as the new normal, calling evil good, murdering millions of unborn babies under the guise of women's rights. Now we have protesters rioting, refusing to be ruled by the law and instead accepting defeat graciously are destroying property. When will you folks understand that Trump was the master of hyperbole. He is still restricted in what he can do by the Constitution, Congress and the Supreme Court. Our family prayed that he would be humble in victory and by his first speech it appears our prayers were answered.
