cdowis Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) I was told that it was only a coincidence that it is scheduled for General Conference weekend. The news article in Deseret News gives assurance that this will not affect attendance at General Conference. "We expect members will attend Conference rather than going to a movie", said a church spokesperson. There is alot of chatter on the internet regarding the use of steel swords, metal armour, and horses. "This movie really shows the Book of Mormon for what it is. This whole thing is pure fiction," noted a critic of the church. But the protesters will be at General Conference, so it is unlikely any will come to the movie theatre. Edited March 3, 2016 by cdowis
sunstoned Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 This looks interesting. I would be surprised if anyone protested the movie.
Calm Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 So, someone else who doesn't watch a lot of movies, I am guessing.
VideoGameJunkie Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 They made Noah and Exodus into movies recently, and starting Tuesday on ABC there will be a miniseries about King David from the Bible, so why not get a studio to make a big budget theatrical Book of Mormon movie?

Judd Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 People are really talking about this as a movie? This is an amalgam of clips from various movies including the Testaments, the Book of Mormon movie from the early 2000s, among others.

I am not impressed by a pastiche of scenes from depictions of north European armed conflicts (presumably Nephites) set over against scenes from "Apocalypto" (presumably the Lamanites). I can see the anti-Mormons getting a lot of mileage out of this, including the racist overtones. I had hoped that we had outgrown the Nordic fantasies of Arnold Friberg. I would much prefer to see a montage of scenes from olive complected peoples on both sides put together to dramatize the battle scenes.
The Nehor Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I will wait for the real movie when I can view history as it actually happened. Hopefully Nephi is more annoying when he is autobiographical then meeting in person.

And did you happen to notice when the movie was going to premier?? The first of April. Sigh, why do I have to explain everything. Edited March 9, 2016 by cdowis 3

Sigh, why do I have to explain everything. You need more cow bells. And more smileys. And some small print at the bottom of your post that says something about how this is just a joke, and not real, and not really what is going to come out as a movie. And it would probably also help if you waited until April 1st to post it. Just some suggestions. But the cow bells are very important.
