cinepro Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Weird. I wonder how the Church would be different today if God had decided to send an angel with a flaming sword to make the early saints stop drinking coffee, but Section 132 and polygamy were sent "by greeting, not commandment."
thesometimesaint Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 He did in a figurative sense, with flaming hot coffee.

Yes, because temporal laws such as the WoW and laws requiring the sealing keys of Elijah fall into the same category to God. The Church would be very different if the temporal and the eternal were to be reversed.
HappyJackWagon Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Wo unto him that calls good, evil and evil, good... It can legitimately get a little confusing when the declarations of church leaders change.
ksfisher Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Wo unto him that calls good, evil and evil, good... It can legitimately get a little confusing when the declarations of church leaders change. So are you confused whether you should offer your second wife a cup of coffee in the morning? 1

JLHPROF Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 CFR that polygamy required the sealing keys of Elijah. Sorry. Did I make the assumption that when you said polygamy you were referring to Eternal (Celestial) Plural Marriage? If you just meant polygamy the social practice then I retract the statement. Otherwise if you meant polygamy as practiced by the LDS Church from 1842ish-1904 then it stands - see D&C 132 vs 19, 39, 45-46.(Fanny Alger being the real question mark).
VideoGameJunkie Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 D&C 132 is still canonized. Even the plural marriage parts. It's still in there so it may still be a part of exaltation and raising up of seed in the eternities. 2
HappyJackWagon Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 So are you confused whether you should offer your second wife a cup of coffee in the morning? If I wait 15 years maybe both will be okay?
iWriteStuff Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 If I wait 15 years maybe both will be okay?Gosh, I hope not. I like naps and weekends without much to do. 3
Stargazer Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 If I wait 15 years maybe both will be okay? Yes, for you, at least. If I wait for 15 years I will likely be dead! I don't know if Father wants me to live until I am 79. I never liked coffee much anyway. Being now a widower, I have a special challenge if I am to now find two wives. Finding one is going to be enough of a challenge, I think.

VideoGameJunkie Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I have 2 uncles who are sealed to 2 women since one had their wife died and the other divorced, but didn't get a temple cancellation. Both will be with 2 women in heaven at least. My uncle who is already sealed to 2 women had his first fiancé die before they got married, so who knows, maybe in the next life he'll get sealed to her too since they really deeply loved each other and that would make 3 women for him. And I assume there's no jealousy in heaven.
VideoGameJunkie Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 But here's an article from a Mormon who denounces polygamy, even in heaven for those who have already been sealed to more than one spouse. http://mormonnerd.com/mormon-mythbusters-4-reasons-why-there-will-not-be-polygamy-in-heaven/
Calm Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Keeps bombing on me. Just get the title in the url. What are his four reaons there is no plural marriage in heaven?
ksfisher Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Keeps bombing on me. Just get the title in the url. What are his four reaons there is no plural marriage in heaven?1. Mortal Polygamy Was a Temporary Sacrifice, Not an Eternal Commandment2. Eternal Polygamy Violates Eternal Fidelity3. Polygamy Cannot Be Eternal if All Are Alike to God4. Eternal Polygamy Makes No Sense Logistically or Demographically 2
carbon dioxide Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 2. Eternal Polygamy Violates Eternal FidelityI am not sure how it does. One can be committed and faithful to more than one wife. It really is no different than having more than one kid. A family with 10 kids can just as loving and faithful to each other as a family with one kid.

Stargazer Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 If you find one, then you will have two. Yeah, yeah, but not both mortal at the same time. I'm being serious, Prof.

A sister in my ward whose fiancée died in an automobile accident long before she was baptized (she was married and divorced from a non-member before she was baptized, too. She got First Presidency permission to be sealed to her fiancée, so there doesn't seem to be a reason for your uncle and his first fiancée to not be sealed together.
Calm Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 It would help if her family were in favour of it.
Tony Frank Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Weird. I wonder how the Church would be different today if God had decided to send an angel with a flaming sword to make the early saints stop drinking coffee, but Section 132 and polygamy were sent "by greeting, not commandment." Jesus Christ reveals what He sees fit to reveal through His prophets. He revealed to Wilford Woodruff that it was time to end polygamy, and He revealed to Heber J. Grant that it was time to keep the Word of Wisdom in order to enter His Temple.
Tony Frank Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Every one of the prophets who have led Jesus Christ’s Church in these latter days has maintained that Doctrine and Covenants Section 132 was a revelation from God. Anyone who says it was not a revelation from God is calling the Prophet Joseph Smith a liar and an adulterer, and they are saying that virtually every one of his successors as God’s prophet on the earth was either a liar or they were deceived by Satan. But I am not surprised that there are those who will reject a revelation from Jesus Christ. In John 6:65-69, it states: “And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except he doeth the will of my Father who hath sent me. “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. “Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. “And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” If many of the disciples who had been following and listening to the Lord Jesus Christ in person will reject one thing he says and follow him no more, how much easier is it to reject what one of his prophets say? 1
